Hi there, George!
I’ll be honest. As a gargoyle, I’ve got a pretty thick skin, but this piece almost made me shed a tear.
This is a nice, heartwarming story (no pun intended!) about the kindness of what some people will do for a complete stranger, and in this case, Ella made the ultimate sacrifice so that man would have a chance to live a full life.
In this day and age, people seem to think only about themselves. It’s a ‘me first’ atmosphere, and the heck with everybody else.
You did a wonderful job of writing this, and Ella was/is indeed a guardian angel watching over that young man. But despite this ‘me first’ atmosphere, I think if he ever did find out who gave him a 2nd chance at life, he’d let her family know just how much he appreciates what she did (and so would that infant!)
