Though the poet is a newbie but shows tremendous maturity in this poetry. The narrator shares his alcohol addiction experiences with us. He does it in step-by-step.
When does a adopt an addiction to alcohol? If that person is in tremendous frustration, that human starts to become an alcoholic. So, it is an acute psychological problem. So, the author easily can use 'Psychology' as the third genre replacing 'Other'.
The next step tells us that it is not easy to forget those pains through alcohol dependence.
This personal experience creates the third step- how do we recover from these unwanted incidents? We know that God is too kind to us. So, if we surrender to him wholeheartedly only then we can get rid from these troubles and get immaterial peace forever. It inspires us to be a true devotee.
Suggestions:-
If you break everyone into two parts, it will be a great rhyming poetry. Though the tone of the poem is sad ultimately, we find inspiration to devote ourselves to God. So, the rhyme matches with the end.
Then the poetry will be:-
"Everything seemed so bleak,
And my will was so weak
In the end, I sought death,
Sought it with each breath
But to my surprise,
God came in disguise
In the form of an old man,
Reaching out with a wrinkled hand

He said above all be honest,
But a new life was promised
So I started the journey,
Although I still felt unworthy
The greatest test was surrender,
And at first, I was a pretender
Although I persevered,
The cravings at first reappeared

And now many years later,
I can still be a dictator
Because the foe is my thinking,
Which at times is still stinking
But all I have is a reprieve,
And my mind seeks to deceive
And pull me back to that lair,
And once again fall in despair

Because it is all just my life,
And like any filled with strife
But I have a new power source,
To help me run this course
This new life shunned by some,
To me is quite wholesome
And troubles at time increase,
But today I meet them in peace".
It is a bright beginning. There is no doubt about it. A bright future is waiting for you. Go ahead.
