*PenB* First Impressions:

I could imagine this scene very well: The two friends who were not used to arguing nevertheless engaged in a kind of fight, where one couldn’t say what it was about and the other couldn’t figure it out. At least, the readers couldn’t. For a while, I thought she had met someone and they were coming over to her apartment on Saturday night, and she didn’t want her best friend to know. After a while, I guessed what the secret was, but at that point, I also wondered why Francis didn’t work it out - after all, it was his birthday the following day and when people start acting weird around your birthday, it’s usually because they are planning something. So I thought I must be wrong or he would have guessed it as well. I assume he didn’t because he was so confused about the argument that he didn’t even think about his birthday.

The two characters were very well written and the dialogue was incredibly realistic, but it was the little things that really brought it to life. For example, in this line: “Why not?” He did not raise his voice, but there was an edge to his simple question that made her bristle.
Not only did you show his emotions as he asked the question but also her reaction to it, and I thought it was nicely done.

*PenG* Suggestions:

The story was very polished and I only spotted one tiny error:

I need to a place to hide out Saturday night.
“need to find a place” or “need a place”?

*PenP* Final Thoughts:

I’m sure the two friends did laugh about this, later. It’s good to know that neither of them said anything during their arguments that they came to regret - that would have been an awful way to ruin a valued friendship. I liked this story; it was lighthearted and fun, and very well written.

Come on in and join the fun!
