![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I love retellings of old fairy tales, especially if they have a twist, like this one. I also love stories where women aren’t damsels in distress that need rescuing - although the girl in this story took it a little far. She sure didn’t need rescuing, but she took revenge on those who attempted it. Because they followed her song, she deemed them wicked. She seemed to have taken a liking to Theodorick though, even though he did the same as the others did: He heard her song and wanted to possess her. But unlike his brothers before him, he wasn’t cruel, so she was trying to be nice, in her own, twisted way. It worked against her that Theodorick was actually a kind soul. Sure, he had followed her song like so many others. (Even his father would have followed, had the Queen not locked him up. - that line made me chuckle.) But when he found out what had been going on, he wanted no part of it. His escape was rather gruesome, even though some of it was true to the original tale. Nice bit of foreshadowing earlier on when he worried about snapping her neck on his ascent, although that’s not quite what happened; it was actually worse! The descriptions were excellent, almost too good at the end. ![]() The story was very well written and I didn’t notice any errors, so I’m going to use this section to point out something that I thought was particularly well done: Rapunzel’s song. I actually went back to read just the song on its own, and it tells a story within the story, about her luring the men to her tower and what happens to them. Nicely done! ![]() I enjoyed this story. It was twisted and fun, and a very unexpected take on the old tale. ** Image ID #2153781 Unavailable ** ![]() ![]()
