*PenB* First Impressions:

I was looking through your portfolio for something to review and spotted this story which didn’t have any ratings, so I thought I’d remedy that. The tale was written in first person but you didn’t say if it was a true story. The way it was written, it could be, but perhaps you just have a good imagination. There was certainly enough detail that sounded like you spoke from experience, and that little aside, My older brother had first choice, but he didn't want it, wasn’t really necessary to include unless it was a fact.

I can empathise with the pigeon problem - I have a place by the sea and the seagulls use my car for target practice. The narrator here clearly had lots of experience with this kind of problem and was well prepared, and he could even give advice on how not to deal with the problem.

*PenG* Suggestions:

I didn’t spot any errors but I do have one suggestion: You said this was a contest entry and I would recommend saying which contest it was written for and what the prompt was. It’s not that the readers are going to judge how well you have used the prompt, it just satisfies our curiosity if we know what inspires a tale. Here, it might have helped to clarify how much of this story was true - if the prompt was, “Imagine you live on a farm” then you’ve probably made the story up *Laugh*

*PenP* Final Thoughts:

This was a fun tale (for the reader who didn’t have to deal with the pigeons) and I thought the ending was nicely done, because pigeons are a problem everywhere so there is no escaping them! My favourite part was the beginning when it all sounded peaceful and idyllic. I didn’t fancy the early start, but that breakfast sounded amazing and probably not something the narrator could have found in the city. A nice read!

Come on in and join the fun!
