Sink or Swim [18+] Need for escape by numbing one's self. |
Greetings and welcome to writing.com! Well, this is a heavy piece of poetry. We see the depths of emotion and the mental suffering of the narrator as they seek solace in the only thing they know, which is addictive, hinted at in metaphors of drowning and hiding underneath. I relate deeply to this theme, having an addictive personality which forces me to avoid anything which could lead to disaster. The need to numb feelings and distract from the pain is satisfied instead in music and WdC... I like the quiet, simple free verse flow; it's easy to read and helps to not distract from the depth of your theme (rhymes can be so trite, you know?) This is good enough to submit to my two favorite poetry contests around here: "Shadows and Light Poetry Contest" and "First and Second Chance Poetry Contest" . They accept any previously written content without prompts. As a newbie you are also eligible to enter "Fox's Socks Newbie Poetry Contest" which I believe is closed for now, but I would recommend adding it to your favorites (click on the black heart until it turns gold) so you know when it reopens. If this is autobiographical, don't lose hope; sometimes it's better to acknowledge your feelings and work through them than to run away from them. They're there for a reason. Take care, thanks for sharing and keep writing My review has been submitted for consideration in "Good Deeds Get CASH!" .
