Wow! What a fantastic piece of cosmic horror. Any chance your middle name is Lovecraft?
But I get ahead of myself. Good morning, Adam Niitsoo Author Icon, and welcome to WdC. As you might surmise from the handle, my main focus here is reading and reviewing the wonderful stories penned by the membership, and this is one of the best I've seen. If you wonder who I am, I posted an essay on that called "On ReviewingOpen in new Window.. If not, no harm done, we're here to talk about you, anyway. Let's step into it, shall we?

THEME & STORY This tale is a clinic in cosmic horror. Lovecraft postulated that there was a pantheon of... Never mind. You're obviously familiar as you're channeling him beautifully here. A sleeping god that means no one well, and one man who knows about it desperately writing it down before he is silenced, hoping against hope that his words will be found and read by someone who will carry the torch onward is classic Lovecraftian stuff. The terror and despair are palpable, as is my frustration in not being able to compose the phrases to sufficiently convey my admiration for what you've done here. Just fabulous!

ISSUES: This is where I usually compose a laundry list of typos, "then" vs "than" gaffes, and that sort of thing. I found none. This little tale was obviously well-edited before you considered sharing it, and that is a habit that can take you far in this very competitive business where perfection is considered barely adequate. Again, you've done a fantastic job in this area, and because of that, the writing, the "container" if you like, showcases its story perfectly.

SUGGESTIONS: This wouldn't be much of a review if I didn't offer something to help you improve your writing. Well, as I said above, I have nothing to nitpick in that area, but I will offer a couple of suggestions to make your work stand out in the sea of new stories that are posted daily here.
First, put something of yourself in your bio blocks. Being mysterious is nice, but as I write this I have no idea whether you're young or old, male or female, experienced or just starting out. Armed with that information, a reviewer can tailor his comments and make his review just that much more useful to you.
Second, WdC defaults to a small, bland font that can be a trial for tired old eyes. I recommend that you fancy this up a bit; this review, for example, is in 3.5 Verdana with a 1.4 line spacing. The controls for this and much more are in the little tiles across the top of the creation box. You can do the things I've mentioned plus add bold type, italics, colors, and many other effects very much worth applying.

SUMMARY: Do I even need to add this? Five big, golden stars! Do you get the idea that I'm impressed? Good, you're very perceptive as well as being a heck of a writer. Without knowing where you are along the path, I'll just wish you the best of good fortune on your writing journey.

Stay inspired!
