![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This story pulled me in with great characters and a tragic plot. Maya’s power, so mysterious and beautiful to everyone around her, completely escaped her. She couldn’t see what she was creating other than on paper, and she even felt that others were making fun of her when they told her about it. She was a very relatable character. I appreciated that she was guarded, even hostile at first. She had her agency stripped away, and the way she gradually warmed to Reil seemed realistic. He earned her trust by waiting and listening and accepting what she offered without trying to ‘fix’ her. It seemed cruel that others got to enjoy her beautiful creations while she was trapped in a sterile room. Perhaps I’m reading too much into it, but the story seemed to be about how we perceive others and how we view ourselves, and the fact that Maya couldn’t ‘see’ what was so obvious to everyone else was devastating. ![]() The story was beautifully written and very polished, and I only noticed one potential error: how impossible the size and location was I think that needs to say ‘were’ instead of ‘was’ at the end - size and location are two things so the verb should be plural. ![]() I had hoped for a happy ending; Maya deserved one. Even if she couldn’t have what she most desired, perhaps she could one day see her own creations and get to enjoy them like everyone else. That she chose a different path was heartbreaking. A very thought provoking story! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This review is affiliated with The B.E.A.R. Fund ![]() ![]() ![]()
