I think I know that dog. She graced our home for nearly 14 years. Her memory still plucks my heartstrings, moistening the corners of my eyes. We used to have to set a heavy gallon vinegar bottle on the top of the trash can to prevent the contents from being all over the floor when we got home from wherever. So, yes. I think I know that dog.
Considering the date on the poem, and considering that we got our dog about that time, yours is either very old now or in the same condition as ours. For that I am truly sorry. Do you ever see memory photos in your photo feed that take your breath away? I do.
Your free verse poem is well-written, telling the tail. Four verses, 32 lines without rhythm or rhyme, but full of meaning.
Some fur babies truly become family members. I pray that is your experience.
Great poem! WRITE ON!
