Letter From The Editor
Ten....Nine....Eight....
Last newletter I mentioned the cool Macros tool, so this time I thought I would mention another great tool. So many times I've been asked if my contest ends at WDC time or some other time zone, I can't remember how many. But when running a contest it's important to make that clear. Even in raffles and auctions, members love to put in last minute bids and want to see who wins! Members sometimes find a contest at the last minute and want to enter but find out they're too late. Luckily, The StoryMaster has a great tool to help us along with deadlines.
You can find the documentation in "Writing.Com 101" in the "Enhance Your Item With WritingML" and scroll down to Embedding: - Embed a Countdown Timer. Who knew this was such a handy item??? Not only will it help contest and activity hosts let members know when their entry or bid has to be in, it can help you in your own portfolio. It can be a useful tool when creating an entry for a contest. You can embed a link at the top of your entry of not only the contest you're writing the item for, but a countdown timer can remind you how much time you have left before you need to visit the contest and post your entry.
You can certainly use the embedded timer for other things, like reminders or a follow up for your own use. I'm sure I haven't thought of all the purposes for this tool, but I'm sure other contest and activity hosts and participants can make suggestions. All in all, the tool is another helper to make things clear and fair. So, take a look and see if it is something you can use in your items. And certainly if you are reviewing a contest or activity (they need review love too!) suggest the countdown tool as a helper.
Contest and Review On!
