About This Newsletter

"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page."

Saint Augustine

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

Not All Those Who Wander - Travel Poetry

Ahhhh, summer. It's the time for vacations and staycations. I am super excited! This time I'm going out of state for my vacation. As you might imagine, it's been quite a while since that's happened. I'm sure it's been a while for all of us due to the pandemic.

What is travel poetry? It's about the places you go, and the people and things there that make it special. It's about the feelings those places, people and things evoke inside you. Yeah, it's like any other poetry, only your readers get to feel like they experienced that travel, too.

So, whether you get to get away from it all or just get some time to stay home and relax—maybe get some stuff done around the house, I wish you all some wonderful vacations.

Enjoy a couple of poetry forms to practice your travel poetry on.

Musette

The musette form is a more recent form (meaning within the last few decades) and was invented by poet Emily Romano.

Nove Otto

The Nove Otto poetry form is also a more recent form, and Scott Alcorn is the father of this brain child.

Comment: my Love Lannet thanks for sharing this form

Love Lannet

I met my fate that date when she came to me
She soon became my mate, that date became my life
When she became my wife, filling me with love
Looking at my white dove of peace in morning
Filling me with mourning for my time left with her
As I sit there drinking my lime and soda
Filled with thoughts about love for her here
Deciding to drink some shots of whiskey right then
We walk to a temple get into a Zen mood
She said to me Dude let’s drink to dawn tonight
That is how our love came to be on that mad night
We drank all night until the coming light of day
She said it was birthday that late May day
I looked again at my fate I hate meet that date
