To the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge
and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing
up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God.
This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

Ecclesiastes 2:26 NIV

Letter from the editor

*Bullet* *Bullet* *Bullet*

Happiness is the realization of God in the heart.
Happiness is the result of praise and thanksgiving, of faith,
of acceptance; a quiet tranquil realization of the love of God.

White Eagle

happiness (n)
1: state of well-being characterized by emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy 2: emotions experienced when in a state of well-being

content (adj)
1:Desiring no more than what one has; satisfied 2: Ready to accept or acquiesce; willing
(definitions courtesy of dictionary.com)

*Bullet* How would you define happiness?
*Bullet* Do you consider yourself a happy person?
*Bullet* If not, what is it that stands between you and happiness?
*Bullet* Are happiness and contentment synonymous?
*Bullet* Can you have one without the other?

These are all important questions, and ones which merit much thought. Society instills in us a sense that we must have money, fame, power, or beauty to be successful and happy. These things speak of physical, temporary traits, but not of the spirit or the soul which are eternal. And it is the condition of the spirit and soul that determines how we take on life, how we journey towards the ultimate end of it, and how we face what lies on the other side.

This is not to say that we should be content with who we are, but of what we have. If your physical and emotional needs are being met - if you have food, water, housing, and firm, meaningful relationships - what more do you need? But, if you still find that you are lacking, have you considered that it may be your spiritual needs which are not being met? This one seemingly insignificant area of our lives affects absolutely everything else. We are not born being happy and content; it's a state of mind, something we must strive for, work hard day in and day out to keep, and hopefully, strengthen.

We can't become what we need to be by remaining what we are.

I would urge you to take inventory. Search your heart. Discover what it is that stands between you and happiness. Chances are it's not what you can gain in material wealth, but in what you must gain in spiritual harmony. Take the time each day to fill as many moments as possible with peace, love, humility and thankfulness. Make a concerted effort to rid yourself of negativity and strife. We are, all of us, children of God. Do whatever it takes to set your hearts and minds on Him and to become what He created you to be.

Blessed Sanctity

I sit here all alone in the sanctity of my mind, and of my home, with only my thoughts free to roam as they please. This is my time to ponder and muse on the life I lead and the choices I’ve made, never dwelling too long in one place. Images and memories abound, stored up over the years, belonging only to me.

Sanity can be found in sorting through the ruins that remain. Able to sift through the odds and ends of so many years, I can cherish those that continue to guide and uplift, and simply discard those that still cause discomfort and pain. I choose to keep both for they are the fabric that is my life.

I hear the sounds that tell of an awakening and know that my time alone is almost done. It’s time to collect my thoughts and store them away until next I can unlock them. I have been blessed with another day, and another chance, to live and act with love and honor, compassion, understanding and humility, and above all else, faith. I pray that God gives me what I need to accomplish this task.

I rise to prepare for the day!

As your faith is strengthened you will find that there is no
longer the need to have a sense of control,
that things will flow as they will, and that you will flow
with them, to your great delight and benefit.

A fine newsletter, Wind! I would say my inspiration comes from my environment, music, my garden, my family, my friend and my animals. Sometimes there's inspiration to be had from simply opening a newspaper or reading a magazine. Inspiration is everywhere - all we need to do is observe, experience and learn how to put it into words!

Why Do I Write?

Sometimes the material begs to be documented. Sometimes that means opening the scene to other sets of eyes. Often it means focusing on a situation, or my feelings about it, in a way that I could see objectively: a form of sacramentalizing it.

The irony of a situation often called to me. A patient fights for life in one bed of the ICU, and in the next is someone who tried to end his.

The little details of missing someone, like missing folding their clean white underwear, intrigue me. Life is in the details: the grieving husband whose cry was, "What do I do about her teeth? They aren't even paid for yet."

But why I write isn't just content crying out to be heard. I write because I like the me who writes. I like the high I get when something good comes out, when funny or painful words roll out in waves. When the surf is up, I want to be in it. When it isn't, I still like paddling around. It feels like my natural element.

Thanks for asking. Write on!

Howdy, Wind. I believe I write because of my grandmother's teachings. She had a simple faith and said that each of us should use whatever talent God gave us. Period. For me, inspiration comes from all around. Sometimes, I'm inspired by nature. Other times, I'm inspired but something as simple as a cracked cup. In times when my fingers fly over the page and I have more to write than I have time, I usually maked short lists of idea snippets and future titles. On the rare occassion when God's world doesn't offer enough inspiration, I dig out these snippets and titles and see what they spark.
