About This Newsletter

"Be mindful when it comes to your words. A string of some that don't mean much to you, may stick with someone else for a lifetime."
~ Rachel Wolchin

"Be careful with your words. Once they are said, they can be only forgiven, not forgotten."
~Unknown

"Raise your words, not your voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder."

Letter from the editor

Words, phrases, and overall verbal and written communication can elicit a strong emotional response from the reader or listener. We use language to appeal to emotion in our everyday conversation. This week I'll share some interesting words and their meanings. I hope you enjoy discovering these words!

*Target2* Kintsugi
While this is not a word that might typically turn up in everyday language or writing, it's a favorite word of mine. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold — a metaphor for embracing your flaws and imperfections.
If we all embraced Kintsugi as a philosophy, we could learn from our mistakes instead of denying them.

*Target2* Novalunosis
noun
The state of relaxation and wonderment experienced when gazing upon the stars.
Every time I experience novalunosis, I feel like my mind goes into a wonderous daze.

*Target2* Abscond
verb
To leave hurriedly and secretly, typically to avoid detection.
He absconded from the custody of the nurses who were escorting him from the hospital to the court.

*Target2* Saudade
noun
A nostalgic longing to be near again to someone or something that is distant, or that has been loved and then lost.
Saudade grabs me when I see the color turquoise, which brings me back to the clear warm water of the Kenyan ocean.

*Target2* Solivagant
adjective
Wandering alone.
It takes a true solivagant to drop everything for a solo backpacking trip in a foreign country.
