Letter from the editor

Busy time of year. Great for some, not so much for others. Money is often a reason why people are not enthusiastic. One thing that I have learned over the years is that (trite, perhaps) it truly is the thought behind a gift that counts. We might not have money to spend, but we do have time. Giving of yourself is priceless. Being there and listening. Giving your time and energy whether to stack some wood, wash a few windows, give a hug or help with something they need done means far more than another dust catcher.

Being there for someone, listening, and being involved with your whole self while paying attention to that person is a gift of yourself that is both rewarding and a two-way street. It is a win-win scenario. Why? We are writers. Any interaction with someone only gives you, the writer, insights into how others think and feel outside of normal interactions.

This time of year, I like to write a poem to those who are close to me as well as random folks that just might need the smile it will bring. Smiles are such a wonderful gift. People simply don't think of that enough. You don't have to search for it,, or order it off Amazon, You don't have to wrap it, because it comes wrapped in you and your smile is a perfect bow!

Spend time with your elders. Sure and they tell the same stories over and over. Yes, you've heard them a million times before. Remember, that WILL be you someday, no matter what you think now. Smile and laugh with them at the old jokes and memories. They are precious. Make the time to see folks you haven't seen for a while! Call them just beclaus!

Poetry more or less began as spoken word history, passed voice by voice from campfire to campfire, town to town. Giving the gift of time is a great way to hear the old memories and, perhaps, write them down in poetic form for those who follow you!
Merry Christmas and have a healthy and Happy New Year!

Ask & Answer

JCosmos Author IconMail Icon writes: Thanks hope you had a good holiday. here in Korea, I had turkey, mash potatoes, asparagus and cheese cake. turkey is not commonly eaten in Korea but we were able to get a turkey breast from the US army commissary, our local oven does not cook a full roast that well, the breast was just enough turkey meat.

On thanksgiving day
We are grateful
For the little things
In life

For the memories
for the food
that we will enjoy
on this day of giving thanks

QueenOwl ~ A New Day Dawns Author IconMail Icon says: Hi Fyn: What a beautiful story. I am touched. Thank you for sharing.

Monty Author IconMail Icon adds: Will be making a meal pretty simple. I will be alone since I lost my wife nearly a year ago but my house is clean and even neat with the exception of my office where my Computers and Ham radios take up space. Thankful I am here with my little dog.

Beholden Author IconMail Icon says: Thank you so much for including my poem, A Thanksgiving Remembered among your Editor's Picks.
