About This Newsletter

They say laughter is the best medicine. And what could be more medicinal than a good, old fashioned belly laugh. The kind that comes from deep inside, vibrating upwards until it reaches your lips. It's what keeps us young, and makes us feel alive.

My name is Darkin, and I’m your host this week for the Comedy Newsletter.

Letter from the editor

Confession time - of a comedic nature.

I find the Three Stooges funny. Yes, you heard me. I love slapstick comedy. A good, old fashioned pie in the face makes me break out in belly laughs. Why? I have no idea. But it does.

Try as I might, I can't pinpoint the reason why they are so funny to me. The first time I watched them I was spending time with my soon-to-be-husband. At first, I thought they were exactly what their name implied - Stooges. Before too long, I was giggling. Then snickering. Then outright laughing. And then, I was hooked.

Now, I don't want you all to think that the Three Stooges introduced me to comedy. Not true. To be honest, my father is the one who really taught me what comedy was all about. He is a funny man, when he tells a story you can bet there's going to be something a bit off in it. And the main character isn't going to ride off into the sunset. Most likely, they are going to be carried off into that sunset.

When I look for something funny to read, I look for that kind of writing. Stories that start off innocent enough, just a character trying to get from point A to point B. Then, WHAM! Life smacks him hard upside the head. Oh sure, some folks like subtle, but not me. I prefer a swift slip on the road of life, followed by a thud.

So, thank you Dad, for teaching me the fine art of comedy. And for all your wonderful stories, true or not.

Thank you, kind reader, for taking the time to read this. Happy Writing!
