About This Newsletter

Have you found your muse yet? Can you describe what your muse looks like? Is your muse male or female? Is your muse amusing, serious, or a combination of amusing and serious? Does your muse suggest a specific genre of stories, poems, or essays?

Letter from the editor

Do you have a muse? Is there such a thing as a muse? Does believing in a muse give a writer an excuse for writer's block? Those are questions I have asked myself over the years. I have written poems and essays about my muse, which I have referred to as a shape-shifter, a nightingale, and a Phoenix, which indicates that I do not think my muse has one specific shape.

This is good, because it means that I can or could get an idea from anywhere. Of late, I have been having problems getting ideas for anything other than blog entries or poems. I am not sure what is causing the problem. It could be that I need to make some sort of change in my life. It could be that I am letting the headlines of this dystopian society we are living in get to me. The problem could be that I am just getting old, a possibility I refuse to accept.

The taste of coffee
awakens my sleeping muse
to new possibilities.

What time of day do you find it easiest to write. Are you a morning, noon, or night person? Are you a writer who takes jots down ideas in your smartphone's notepad? Have you ever found yourself setting at a stoplight writing down an idea, the light turns green, and the car behind you hanks to get you moving? I have experienced all of these and more.

Write a fantasy or science fiction story about your muse. Content rating of 18+ or lower. Deadline: July 28, 2022.
