Every four weeks I write a Noticing Newbies newsletter on a subject I hope readers find interesting. I'm sure many newsletter editors feel the same.
I've written more than 115 newsletters covering many topics from the WDC Reference Guide ("Writing.Com 101" ), tips on using the Navigation menu, thoughts on Reviewing techniques, various community activities, and the use of newsletters in general.
In every case though, the topics I select are based on what I think is important at that time. That said, I've been a member for more than 14 years, and topics I think are important may not be what you want.
With more than 65 features covering all aspects of one’s writing journey, Writing.Com is the place to be for any writer. WDC is an extremely complex site. The Staff and many members have created an in-depth Reference Guide and several Help forums for members to get help when needed. One avenue of help is this newsletter.
Short and sweet—I have one question for my Newbie readers.
Is there some aspect of WDC that you would like to see dealt with in this newsletter?
Please submit your requests to the Feedback response located at the bottom of the newsletter. Or, you can email me directly. I look forward to your queries, and to providing that information you seek.

Check out this forum designed to assist Newbies.
Then drop in on these Newbies. Take a moment to review this offering ... or something else in their Port. Welcome them to WDC through a scribble in their Notebook.

Thanks for spending time with me today. At the bottom of every newsletter is a section entitled
followed by a text box. If you liked what you read (or if you didn't), please take time and drop me a line. I'd love to hear your ideas.
From the mailbag:
From Elfin Dragon-finally published : You asked what brought me to WDC. Some many years ago I had my own Fantasy Writing Site on Microsoft. Katzendragonz was a part of my group at that time. Then some health issues happened and I needed to shut down. Then 5 years later (or so) Katzendragonz contacted me and invited me to check things out. And thus I've never left.
Kudos to both Katzendragonz and you to recognize an opportunity and your continued support.
From Leger~ : I joined in 2004 after lurking as a guest and reading stories for a time. I have never regretted the time spent here, learning to improve my craft and develop a voice. On top of that, I have made some wonderful friends and even met a few! The old WDC conventions were so fun. I've learned you get what you put into the site. I can't even guess how many hours I have logged at WDC! Most members here are kind, creative and helpful. What more can you want from a website?
Unfortunately I came onboard after the last WDC convention. I've read member accounts of those conventions and have always felt like I missed out. Leger, you hit it right though--what more can you want from a website?
From NaNoNette : I agree that every active member plays a role in keeping the site relevant and useful to all of us. Paying for a membership here is ultimately better for both the member and the site. Paid members get SO MUCH MORE than free members. It's actually quite mindboggling what we get here for the equivalent of eight lattes (Upgraded Membership for 12 months) or two tanks of gas (Premium Membership for 12 months). Paying also makes it so that the cost of keeping the site on servers is possible in the first place. To me, a paid membership is absolutely worth it. For transparency, I have the Upgraded Membership. I find it to be the sweet spot for myself, but I know several members here who need the higher levels of membership to host all of their vast writings. I also want to point out that, while a newbie might not think about it that way, the price for the memberships has never increased. So, while everything else gets more expensive, using this site keeps its reliable pricing. That is worth a lot in my mind.
Annette, you are so right about the cost and value. My current membership cost hasn't increased since I joined.
From FineThen : Thanks for this! Very informative.
You are welcome!
From Graywriter : I really don't recall what led me to WDC over a decade ago. I had published a lot of non-fiction, and was starting to write fiction. I have old stories from 2008 to 2011 that collected a lot of rejections. In 2008 I took an online writing course, which may or may not have helped. In 2011, probably as a result of a google search I joined WDC hung around for a while and left, to return two or three years ago. Although I've had only a few fiction pieces published in the past few years, I do feel that WDC had enhanced my writing skill, especially within the last few months.
Thanks for that great Testimonial.
From the Newsfeed:
From Bob : I try to stay active in the comments about the news feeds. Went on vacation for about a week and didn't access the sight. Someone kindly dropped me an email that I had not been active on WDC lately. It's nice to be missed. Makes me feel a part of the community.
WDC is a great community.
From jdennis01jaj: I visit the Newsfeed. There you can exercise your "muse-in-immediate-gear," and meet new people by giving them honest praise or helpful hints to improve the impact of their postings. It is a wonderful place mainly because you can do no wrong as long as you respect others as equals.
So true!
From Serena Blade : I write my stories and save them here; or I enter contest; or help others when it comes to their stories.
From AmyJo-Thankful in heart : I am enjoying the reviewing. I have done some writing, and have been making friends. This has been a wonderful place for me.
From keyisfake : Read other people's work and give a fair critique. And participate. I love the questions on this site they're fun.
Thank you all.
