About This Newsletter

Hi, I'm JACE Author Icon.

Welcome to this issue of the Contests & Activities newsletter. Most folks take these events for granted. I'm here to tell you Contests and Activities are very different, and despite their differences, each event is sure to please and stimulate.

Please drop a note with your thoughts on this subject. I hope to hear from you. *Smile*

Letter from the editor

Whether you’re a new member or a seasoned constituent, you’ve joined Writing.Com because you’re a writer. Writing is a two-way street. You write—that’s output. You get a review—that’s input. Of course, input is more than just receiving reviews. Feedback comes in many forms. The feedback is so important we have an entire newsletter devoted to it. And this is it!

You can find listings of both Contests and Activities under Community in the Navigation menu.

Activities encompass a variety of different community events that are available for participation, including (but not limited to) the following:

*BulletR* Long-term writing events where prizes are awarded to all who complete the assignments.

*BulletR* Group-participation writing events where the typical entrants will be participating in items that are not in their own port, such as adding chapters to Interactive Stories, or additions to Campfires.

*BulletR* Scavenger hunt events.

*BulletR* Nomination and Voting events.

*BulletR* Game events where entrants are individuals or groups/teams.

*BulletR* Reviewing events of any kind.

Technically a subset of Activities, Contests are divided into two categories: Official WDC contests, which require a paid membership to enter; and member-run contests, which are normally open to all members.

Contests are distinctive activities in which members submit entries and compete against one another. Contests normally have a deadline for entries, after which a judge or judges evaluates the entries and awards prizes.

There are two locations to promote your event. While some events may appear to overlap both the contest and activity definitions, you may post your event only on one listing--"Activities @ Writing.ComOpen in new Window. or "Writing Contests @ Writing.ComOpen in new Window..

For more information on contests and activities, check out "Community ActivitiesOpen in new Window.. It explains both topics in great detail.
