Writing.Com Time

With New Year's celebrations barely in the rearview mirror, most of us have a vivid recollection of seeing different countries and continents sweeping into the new year. During that night, it was okay that we were all lving and acting and broadcasting in our own time zone. For all things that have to do with Writing.Com, such as contest entry deadlines or the last minute to bid on an auction package, we have to adhere to one time zone.

Writing.Com resides in Eastern Standard Time. If you have a clock on your smartphone that allows you to choose the time in different cities, choosing New York will give you the correct time.

You can easily find out what day and time it is in the United States Eastern Standard Time by looking into the left sidebar. Scroll down a little bit and you will find a *Clock2* icon. Next to it, there is a date and time. That is the official site time. If you are cutting it close with a deadline here on Writing.Com, check out that clock. It will not lead you astray.

In the top right corner of the page, there is also a small notice that says: Site time. It only gives you the time of day and not the date.

Why should you care about Writing.Com time at all? Does it really matter.

Yes it does.

"Dear Me: Official WDC ContestOpen in new Window. says: The submission deadline is: 11:59 pm EST, January 31, 2024. Entries edited after the submission deadline may be disqualified from winning without notice.

Not every contest or activity will spell it out that specifically. Some have a countdown. Others simply say "on the last day of the month." Although the last day is 24 hours long, once the Eastern Standard Time is past midnight, it's no longer "the last day of the month." It has become the "first day of the month."

You have to be aware of the time difference. It can mean that your contest entry is qualified to win. It can mean that your auction bid gets counted. It can mean that you're getting an award for participating in accordance with the deadlines and rules that are valid for everyone, including you.

Do you know what Writing.Com midnight is in your timezone?

Replies to my last Short Stories newsletter "So Many Stories To TellOpen in new Window. that asked Do you know the many places that can get you to write more stories?

Kåre เลียม Enga Author Icon wrote: I was bothered by a pesky fly, took photos of a beehive, dropped my key (found it), watched mating sparrows and the green man shearing shrubs. I wrote ""Morning exercise" D13 #9 40w 'speculation'Open in new Window. just before the deadline. Is it a great work of art? *Laugh* Are you kidding? I wrote. 40 words. Concrete images. And I made my exercise goal as well.

Any of these events sounds like a great story starter.
