Hi, I'm JACE .
Welcome to this issue of the Noticing Newbies newsletter. Join me as I take you into some nooks and crannies of Writing.Com that you may not have found time to check out yet.
Don't forget to toss me a note about what you liked or didn't like in my column, or about a topic you'd like to see discussed. This newsletter is about and for you. And for you seasoned members, I hope you'll find something you can take from my ramblings.

Normally, you see the Writing.Com page in three sections: the Left Column where the Navigation menu appears, the Center Column where the content of the viewed page appears, and the Right Column where Favorites appear.
Much has been written about Favorites in both newsletters and "Writing.Com 101" about how to make a Fan or a Favorite of an item or a member so I won't go over that again. Suffice it to say that the Favorites column is a list of up to 20 of the most recently edited items that you have favorited or fanned.
By now you may have noticed some identification icons after a member's name--I've listed three random members each with a different colored Heart icon. That icon indicates a Favorite or Fan relationship status with you. Note: you may also see a , a , or a icon in place of the hearts.
Pericles : indicates this member is neither a Favorite nor a Fan of mine.
wannabe : indicates this member is a Favorite of mine.
Shannon : indicates I am a Fan of this member.
In the case of the latter two members, both are listed in the My Favorites window. This listing can be accessed by clicking either on FAVORITES at the top of the right column, or on Favorites under My Account in the left column Navigation menu.
Members who have been here for some time probably have favorited or fanned both members (authors) and items. I have more than 220 items and authors listed in My Favorites. They currently reside in 16 folders that I've created to help organize those favorites. Some of my folders include Reviewing, Contests, How-To, WDC Support, Stories, and Authors, in addition to the Main folder everyone has.
When adding a favorited (or fanned) item or author, you are asked into which folder you wish to place the item. The default is Main. If you have created other folders, you can select a folder in the window and select Move.
There are currently no constraints on the number of folders a member may create no matter your membership level. Items are listed within each folder from most recent to oldest edited item. Consider removing items that have not been edited for several years. After all they take up space better suited for items you use or visit regularly. (That's advice I need to take as I have several items last edited more than 20 years ago.)
How long an item remains on your FAVORITES list depends on how fast your Fave/Fan items are edited. Some forums are accessed many times each day thus moving other items off the list quickly. That's why organizing items within folders will help you find a particular item fast.
Have you any tips about using Favorites that you'd like to share? Send them to me and I'll highlight them in next month's issue. Until then, happy surfing.
One Quick Tip before I go: If you need more room in your Center column, you can compress the Favorites column by clicking on the >> icon at the top. Click again on the << icon and the column will reappear.

Thanks for spending time with me today. At the bottom of every newsletter is a section entitled:
followed by a text box. If you liked what you read (or if you didn't), please take time and drop me a line. I'd love to hear your ideas.
From the Mailbag:
From Enby_Liz : This is the first few chapters of my story which is has romance, drama, adventure, and fantasy. I've been on the site for a little under a year, but still feel lost figuring everything out. Hopefully sponsoring my story is the next right step. Please consider highlighting it in your next newsletter!
Highlighted item: "Chapter 1 to Chapter 8"
Good luck.
From the Newsfeed:
From Allan Charles : Probably to Scroll.
From Mousewitch : Exploring a whole new world of friendship, comradery, and helping each other understand that just saying "I want to be a famous writer" is not enough.
From IshmaelIsFoolish : My wish is to be able to make the story I would enjoy reading the most. Such an ability is like a superpower to me.
Keep working at it--you can make that happen.
From Trebor : Down the rabbit hole again. The stories I have inside me have to come out. It's almost a calling if you will. After being medicated or self-medicated since the 2nd grade, I am more or less sober around 98%. I still relapse from time to time, but thanks to rehab I am able to walk away from it. The hard part is the brain damage and the damage done to my body from years of drinking. Yet I know all I need to do is jump down that rabbit hole. This time one filled with creativity and to just open my heart to everyone. Then start building back the bridges I burnt going down the road I chose. It's never too late for those of you who might have chosen the wrong road, eventually a fork will come.
While everyone is different, I use my writing as therapy of my own.
From s : WdC has become my social media. As such, I am off to help other writers. I'm off to find beta readers. I'm off to sell some of my books. I'm off to interact with others. And if I get lucky, I'm off to make some online friends half a world away.
See you around here.
From CSCJR : I love to read especially work from others. I enjoy reading works with lots of personal experience and emotion! I have had a lot of trauma in my life and I feel like this is a safe place to express myself and discover new ways to turn my traumas into stories or poems so that I can possibly have healing. I used to write songs and poems and stories often as a child and high school and I'd like to regain that!
Good luck to you.
From writer : My wish is become a famous writer.
That's a great goal.
