Imagine traveling down a dark, spooky road. Twisted branches seem to reach for you as you move along the path. As you move around a bend in the road, you come face to face with…!

Strange, evil roads are a great setting for horror stories, because you never know what is coming next. Is the man with his thumb in the air just a normal person or…something else? If you give him a ride, will you ever make it home?

What if your car breaks down? Will the sweet old lady who lives in a cottage beside the road let you in to use the phone or eat you for supper?

Maybe the road is a portal to hell or another world which is both frightening and wonderful. If you keep going you may never return, or if you do, the outside world may have greatly changed. Or maybe you will never be the same yourself.

Something to try: Write a horror story that takes place on a haunted road.
