Love on campus

12 years after leaving school I decided to go to university and pursue my writing dreams with a degree in creative writing. I arrived on campus Monday morning to find a sea of students both young and old with a host of hairstyles, clothe ranges and an attitude, what I also found was a plethora of love stories.

I sat in a lecture theatre waiting for the lecturer to arrive looking around and listening to the stories unfolding around me. A guy in the row above me had a girlfriend back home he was already missing her and couldn’t wait for the Christmas break to see her again, two girls in the row in front of me were talking about the boys they had met in the union bar the night before, and the girl sat next to me told me her boyfriend had dumped her a few weeks back just before he left for a different university because he felt he couldn’t trust himself whilst he was away.

These snippets of stories have let me to this newsletter this month. Imagine the range of possibilities attached with university, college or school, endless stories, endless plot lines and sub plot lines.

Have a look at today’s film industry and at the amount of teenage love/romance stories being shown, the TV guide will show you dozens being shown, and the audiences are masses. The romantic comedy such as “Road trip” “Eurotrip” “Date movie” “American pie” appeal to both men and women from all age groups because they have something to offer everyone, drama, action, comedy, love/romance.

They key to each of these films is having that something a little different to offer, the same subject can be viewed through a complete different aspect from another point of view, as long as the angle is new, fresh and exciting, the audience will love it.

Try it yourself; look for the love on your campus.

The ultimate proof of love ... That is what I have envisioned in my novel "Oskar and Elaine" [13+]. Check out "An afterword from the author" [E] It is a spoiler but it explains just why this story contains what I envision to be the ultimate proof of love. LovelyOne Author IconMail Icon

I appreciated the story of your husband's sacrifice to allow you to reach your dream. It has given me new ideas for my writing. My wife is starting a photography business so I find myself driving her all over the place to get the pictures she wants. It is a sacrifice but it has also allowed me to finish my first full lenght novel. Thanks for the newsletter PennyInPocket Author IconMail Icon
