Letter from the editor

Fade In:

Hi Everyone!

This is my first editorial as an regular editor of the official Action/Adventure Newsletter, and I just wanted to take some time this month to introduce myself to all of you. *Smile*

Prior to today, I've only guest edited this Action/Adventure Newsletter four times (and most recently a year ago in March 2024), so I'm really looking forward to taking on a new challenge and exploring a new genre. I was a regular editor of the Mystery Newsletter for ten years, and I also currently write for both the Noticing Newbies Newsletter and the Spiritual Newsletter.

As a writer, reader, and viewer, action/adventure is one of my all-time favorite genres. Growing up, I loved movies like the original Indiana Jones trilogy, Goonies, and Jumanji. I read books like Treasure Island, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, and - when I got a little older - more complicated books like Le Morte d'Arthur and Lord of the Rings.

After high school, I attended and graduated from film school in Southern California, and have spent the past twenty-plus years working in the film and television industry, many of those years making my favorite type of movies; those in the action/adventure, fantasy, and/or science fiction genres. I read and watch and lot of stuff for both work and for fun, and one of my hobbies is studying narrative and genre and learning lessons that I can apply to my own writing. As a writer, I love genre fiction of all kind, and particularly the action/adventure genre, for which I've authored both short stories and screenplays.

As I'm settling into the regular rhythm of writing this newsletter, I would love to hear from you - the readers of this newsletter - about what kinds of things you're hoping to read about in this newsletter. Do you want advice on how to write action/adventure stories? Discussion about current content in the action/adventure genre (books, movies, television shows, etc.)? Recommendations about what to read or watch? All of the above?

Please take a few moments to consider filling out the feedback form below (or responding to the question when it's posted on the newsfeed!) and letting me know what you'd like to see from my Action/Adventure Newsletters in the future. Looking forward to writing editorials for all of you!

Until next time,

The older I get the less action I see so the less I write. 'Course slowing up on all.
