The Easter Bunny, whether you call him Peter or some other name, is hopping down the bunny trail or through the green grass. He is laying colored eggs for us to find. Why is the Easter Bunny considered male? Where did the idea of a egg laying rabbit come from?

The egg laying rabbit comes from German mythology. It was a fertility symbol, which I suspect was originally a female. Of course, after the rabbit came to America a song writer changed the rabbit to a cottontail and gave the rabbit a traditional male name. Does that suggest how myths change as they are carried across the planet?

America has its own myths about rabbits. One of those is the jackalope. This is a cross between a jackrabbit and an antelope. You will, supposedly, find this creature in some of the western states. I live in Nevada and I have never saw a jackalope. Of course, that does not mean they not at the Nevada Test Site or Area 51.
