No, I'm not talking about the sure-to-be huge 25th Writing.Com Anniversary to be celebrated beginning on 1 Sep 2025.
This month marks the 15th anniversary of the release of Writing.Com’s reference guide, titled "Writing.Com 101" , which was released to the general membership on 30 Jul 2010. And what a resource it was ... and still is today.
This item is unusual in that all items are identified by a series of 6- or 7-digit numbers; the reference guide, however, uses the three numbers in its name—{item:101}—making it very easy to link.
I first wrote about this exhaustive guide about all things Writing.Com in my very first Noticing Newbies newsletter, "Writing.Com 101: Help Yourself" , 14 years ago. "Writing.Com 101" 's importance has not diminished since its introduction, and I thought since the membership dynamics changes regularly, reminding folks of this aspect of WDC is important.
The Sitewide Stats at the time I wrote this shows that 282 new members joined in the last 24 hours. That number fluctuates daily. Many folks joined just to see if this is a site they might like. Others joined with the intent of staying for some time. No matter what the reason, new members need to know there is a guide to help them navigate this complex site. Honestly, there are many times I refer to "Writing.Com 101" for some aspect I’ve not used for some time.
A little math based at this point in time. "Writing.Com 101" has been viewed 537,597 times since its creation on 29 May 2010. Based on the number of days between then and today (3 Jul 2025), this reference guide is viewed an average of 100 times daily.
There are other forums that are viewed more often daily, such as "Technical Support Forum" . This Help forum is viewed almost four times daily more than the reference guide. But I believe that many of the answers to questions in the Help forums are verified against information found in "Writing.Com 101" . After all, no one wants to pass along incorrect information.
It’s a valuable resource for all members, but especially for you just getting started. Individual excerpts in the guide are not tracked by views. But I would guess that the most used entry in "Writing.Com 101" by new members is "Create/Edit a Static Item" —at least for the first couple items you add to your Portfolio. There is SOOO much information contained within that I couldn't possible mention everything; just go and see.
I’ve included an excerpt from my first newsletter that discussed "Writing.Com 101" . I think it bears repeating.
As newbies, I'm sure you've discovered several forums, all of which are designed to help you navigate through Writing.Com. You probably posted an "I'm here" note on " Writing.Com General Discussion" or on " Noticing Newbies" . You may have asked for help at " Technical Support Forum" or " Non-Technical Support Forum" .
But I would encourage you to check out " Writing.Com 101" initially when you have a question about some aspect of WDC. First, there's something inherently rewarding when you search for and find the answer to your question. Yes, it's easier to ask. But the very search may turn up things you weren't specifically looking for, but were still nice to know.
Second, becoming familiar with our reference guide may save you time in the future. Instead of posting a question on a forum and waiting for someone to answer, you can find your answer much quicker by looking for it yourself.
Finally, " Writing.Com 101" is readily available at the top of every page you visit on Writing.Com. It's the second link on the line of links located in the Skin. Right-click on the link to open it in a new window. Or, you can access the guide via the navigation menu under Writing.Com Tools.
A lot of work went into creating that resource. Keeping it updated takes a continuous effort on the part of every member, whether by offering suggestions for changes or additions, or by senior members who are charged with ensuring site changes are noted in the guide.
"Writing.Com 101" 's anniversary may not get a lot of fanfare. But I believe it remains the most important single resource the site has to offer to its members.
So, take a few moments and get to know it better.

Thanks for spending time with me today. At the bottom of every newsletter is a section entitled:
followed by a text box. If you liked what you read (or if you didn't), please take time and drop me a line. I'd love to hear your ideas.
From the NL Feedback for "Support "Staff"" :
From THANKFUL SONALI Magical Days! : Thanks for this overview of hierarchy on WDC! You know what I'd like to have seen, in addition to what you wrote? The role of other red case accounts--Itchybarn and also Writing.Com Support and more. Thanks again!
Thanks for the suggestion; perhaps in the future ....
From the Newsfeed for "Support "Staff"" :
From TheBusmanPoet : I know like everything else there is one, but I go about my own way and try not to get in their way.
I suppose there is that. But interacting among all the members, no matter the level, is what makes WDC rather unique.
From Stik to My Own Beat : I've known about it, even spent time as a mod. I've also seen promotion patterns ebb and flow over the 20+ years I've been around.
And thank you for that time you spent in a leadership role.
From Jeffrey Meyer : I'm not even sure I recognize the hierarchy in my own house. As often as I get yelled at, I guess I don't.
Tough household, huh?
From Susie : Yes I'm aware. But most things in life are them up there and most of us somewhere down here.
Except, I believe those "up there" are much more accessible here at WDC.
