About This Newsletter

"The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter—'tis the difference between the lightning-bug and the lightning."
— Mark Twain

"Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."
— Rudyard Kipling

"The limits of my language are the limits of my mind. All I know is what I have words for."

Letter from the editor

Sometimes it's hard to find the right word to express a feeling or situation when writing. However, that doesn't mean there isn't a word that can match what we are trying to say, or what we are feeling. Finding a real word that perfectly describes what we are feeling or thinking is somewhat validating, I guess. Anyway, here are some interesting words that I found to share with you! Maybe they will make their way into your writing - *Shrug*!

*Vine1* Zephyr
Noun: a calm, gentle breeze.

This word stems from the name Zephyrus, the Greek god of the west wind.

*Vine1* Eunoia
Noun meaning beautiful thinking; healthy mind.

Eunoia is the shortest word in the English language that contains each vowel.

*Vine1* Fika
A moment to slow down and appreciate the little things in life.

Fika is a Swedish concept that emphasizes the importance of taking time to stop and socialize.

*Vine1* Philocalist
A philocalist is someone who cherishes the little things; a lover of beauty; someone who finds beauty in all things.

*Vine1* Sonder
Sonder is a word that describes the realization that each passerby you come across has a life as vivid and complex as your own. The word also describes, in addition to the realization, that you may only appear once in this other person's life.

*Vine1* Opia
Opia is described as "the ambiguous intensity of looking someone in the eye, which can feel simultaneously invasive and vulnerable." The feeling is like looking through a peephole at someone's front door, unaware of whether they're looking back at you.

*Vine1* Rubatosis
Rubatosis is the unsettling awareness of your own heartbeat, which continues to beat in your chest without you realizing it.

*Vine1* Kenopsia
Anyone who has come across abandoned areas that used to be buzzing with people will recognize this feeling. Keopsia is the feeling you get when you are in this "forlorn" atmosphere, which brings a negative, empty feeling.

*Vine1* Chrysalism
Some people enjoy the rain, while others find comfort in being indoors during a thunderstorm. That's what chrysalism describes: being inside during a storm, listening to rain, and feeling a sense of tranquility.

*Vine1* Peiskos
Peiskos is the feeling of enjoying the warmth from a fireplace.

Peiskos is a Norwegian word that describes the pleasures of sitting in front of a glowing fire.
