"Everybody is talented, original, and has something important to say." Finding that something important involves embracing creative idleness ("the imagination needs moodling--long, inefficient, happy idling, dawdling and puttering"), freeing "what we really think, from what we think we ought to think," and "thumb[ing] your nose at all know-it-alls, jeerers, critics, doubters."

"My writing had been put on hold for years. After retirement I dusted off all my notes, happened to find this wonderful community by accident on August 10, 06. In a short time, someone was kind enough to give me an upgrade. I was thrilled. My writing took off, entered some contests. I received some invites to join groups. Jumped in with both feet. From the first day I signed up I began learning and making friends. Recently, my wife purchased a Premium Membership for me as a gift. I am hooked, thanks to so many here at Writing.Com. "

"Well, when wanting to describe something you like, you're supposed to say good things about it. I'm afraid that's not going to be possible for me to do here. See, there's not enough room or time to put everything about Writing.Com that's really cool. I'm a high school sophmore, and last year in English class, I barely scraped an A. This year, I have a 99, and the site has also helped me get a 97 in AP World, since I've used what I learned here to write my essays. The only bad thing about the place is that I have to shut my computer down after a while. Too bad."

Will a critique group make you a better writer? No; only you can do that. It can, however, provide a source of editorial assistance in spotting weaknesses, inconsistencies, or typos that you might otherwise have missed. It can give you a chance to share your own experience and expertise, which can be rewarding in itself. And perhaps best of all, it can help you escape the isolation that often comes with being a writer. Meeting with fellow writers, even on-line, can help remind you that the joys and frustrations of this business are shared by others. You are not alone!

Feedback from last month's "Invalid EntryOpen in new Window.

Submitted Comment: Esprit, "Invalid EntryOpen in new Window. is excellent advice for every writer, not just our Newbies. I giggled when I read 'touchy'. We've all been there at some stage, and from time to time we all revert back (for those fortunate enough to have grown a thicker skin).

Thanks, Puditat. I write what I know, *Delight* and I know 'touchy' personally.

Submitted Comment: esprit you're awesome!!!I have a question how do you get a picture on your case cover.

Susie, thank you! To have a costumicon on your briefcase all the time, you need to purchase a Premium membership. But, several times a year we're able to purchase temporary costumicons with our gift points. We are able to gift them to others, too. Watch for the Sitewide Announcements on your account page, and in your mailbox. Have you used your free month of Premium yet?

Submitted Comment: The newsletter is nice. It is an interaction among writers, comments on writings. So Newbies can learn a lot about the writing world. Please keep it up.

Submitted Comment: I liked your piece on reviewing; I'd like to add that negative reviewing without constructiveness can mean that you don't get feedback yourself for fear it is considered some form of payback! If you really don't like a piece don't review it; Give it a low rating if you wish. as the old saying goes if you can't say anything nice...

You're right, Moonhawk. That particular 'old saying' is our Motto, but low ratings without comments isn't nice.

Submitted Comment: Hhhhmmm, nice newsletter. "If you must be rude, review your own work..." LOL, a classic line! I wrote that one down! Thinking of you often, my Sweetest Godmother. Stay on your feet, Soldier, I'm still on mine. Don't you worry, and don't make me worry. Give me a call sometime. Take care, Beautiful One.

Gen! You silver tongued you know what. When are you coming back? I miss wonderful Chimu.
