Men fear death as children fear to go into the dark; and as that natural fear in children is increased with tales, so is the other.
~Sir Francis Bacon
No passion so effectively robs the mind of all its powers of acting and reasoning as fear.
~Edmund Burke
When you look into the abyss, the abyss also looks into you.

As I write this, you and I are facing another new year, another new beginning. I often wonder why we wait until this time of year to make resolutions. We can do so at any time. I imagine the turning of the calendar year feels like a fresh starting place.
Having said that, what are your New Year's resolutions? More specifically, your writing resolutions. Do you plan to write a novel? Try a new genre? Enter contests?
In 2007 I plan to take the bull by the horns in all facets of my life, including writing. I have about five novels that are each barely started. I want to finish at least a rough draft of one. I plan to continue to work on my book of law enforcement themed poetry, perhaps even have it published. I want to continue to expand the genres I write. I am attending a writer's conference near my home. For that conference, I plan to enter work in several of the contest categories. I want to write more than I did this year.
Sounds like a lot, doesn't it? If I can accomplish two or three items on my list, I'll be happy. It's doable with commitment and discipline.
So, tell me, what are your writing resolutions for 2007?
Til next month!

From ⭐Princette♥PengthuluWrites : Hey, I love your newsletter. It's really cool how you quoted Nietzsche, since that's in my signature, expanded. And I agree about dreams-they're half my inspiration (is that why I'm so twisted?) Thanks!
Thanks! I love that quote. And hey, twisted is good!
From Paige Turner : Wow! Thanks, Nikola, for featuring my Dream Lover story. I had forgotten about it (and I received some very encouraging comments about it) You're right. Dreams and nightmares are especially inspiring horror stories. I like that movie Dreamscape, too.
PT
I'm glad to bring more readers to your work. Dreams are one of those realms of the unknown that are perfect to tap into, aren't they?
From writeone : I love digging into dreams, just to see how sick and twisted I really am. Some of my dreams are worth writing, some of them are crap ... hey, just like my stories
Anyway, there are some really cool websites about interpreting dreams. Just google dream interpretation and you can find dream dictionaries. Now, talk about story starters. To make it even better, see if you can interpret your dreams, and then twist it somehow to make it not mean what the dictionary says it means. Does that make sense? Oh, well, time for my nap!
Thanks for the newsletter!
Thanks for the tip! Pleasant dreams! |
