Letter from the editor

I'd like to thank everyone who took my poll. For those who missed it, here it is again:
[Linked Poll's access is restricted.]

As of February 5, 2007, there were 78 responses. Over 60% are either planning or currently writing a novel. Only five percent are in the editing stages, and six percent submitting to publishers. I think it's notable that no one is looking to self-publish. It seems to be a last resort for people, or not an option. It's not something we aspire to.

After seeing these results, I will focus most of my topics on world-building and the novel-writing process. My newsletters will be geared more toward the novel than the short story. I will still be doing occasional interviews, as it's good to see the process of a published writer. March newsletter will be an interview, and April's will be on naming characters.

Now I'd like to address a comment submitted by appolloslady Author Icon :
I have read all of the Harry Potter Books (that are out) and I have gotten into the 'Eragon' or 'Inheritance' Series. I have also read all of the Dragonriders of Pern series...

My question to you is, do you know of any other authors or books that are along these lines, maybe for adults as opposed to young adult????

Thanks!
Cassandra

The following are my recommendations.

Dragon Star Trilogy and Dragon Prince Trilogy by Melanie Rawn. These books are filled with princes, dragons, magic, politics, and romance. They are complex, run by strong and engaging characters, and have plots that keeps you reading. The first book is Stronghold.

The Dragonvarld Trilogy by Margaret Weis is another good one. The first book is Mistress of Dragons. The main character is a priestess, one of the all-female followers of the Mistress of Dragons, whose faith is tested. Another main character is a dragon which can take the form of a man.

If anyone has a book to recommend for Cassandra, feel free to comment. *Smile*

Reader Comments
From Mojo Author Icon :
I enjoy the interview you had with Alan. I'm especially interested in how books are published and obtaining agents for future reference. I heard that is the hardest part of becoming a novelist. It was very informative.
Mojo
It's good to learn all you can about publishing. Getting published is never easy, but knowledge of the process can make it less intimidating.

From Kiante Author Icon:
Interesting interview. I think if I see it, I might like to read that book.
I'm sure Alan would be glad to hear that.

From Tehanu Author Icon:
Interesting newsletter, Enchantress! I feel that you spent a good deal of time on this quality Q&A.
Thanks! There will be another interview next month. *Smile*
