I Can Do That!

Writing short articles for magazines sure does look easy, doesn't it? I'm sure we've all read something and thought, "Why, I could've written that!" Maybe you could have, and maybe the writer was so good that she made it appear deceptively simple.

Amateurs are lured into thinking they can make money by writing articles without having experience, practice, or skill. Since each of these is learned over time, it's always better for beginners to write as much as they can within their interests or abilities -- something they can handle with relative ease and see published after few submits. Submitting articles to online article content farms is a good place to begin. Also, the local newspaper will usually accept interesting articles and you can build up your clip files with these.

Take baby steps by learning to write a good paragraph before expecting to sell an article to a famous magazine. Write a lot of '55' or '100' word prompted stories; they're fun and they are good practice in writing for the theme of the magazine. Learn to spell. Learn the basics. Study and read many magazines. One day you will hold a top-notch magazine in your hands and say, "Wow, I wrote that!"

Keep writing, it's good practice!

A Quick Tip

Greetings,

If you have a slower or older computer, you may want to use our "WDC Lite" option available in your My Preferences area. This setting is intended for users on Dial Up OR those with slower computers. WDC lite goes back to the old navigation system.

The new navigation system does require a little more computer power to "render" than the old system, so if you find the site slower to build pages now, "WDC Lite" may be the way for you to go. I have tried the system on a number of computers, going back about 2 or 3 three years in age and find it to be fast on them all, but of course, individual member's computer specifications will vary.

You can also try making sure you're using the latest version of your web browser and that you've cleared your cache, defragged your hard drive and rebooted recently.

Hope this helps!
~~SM
