In May, I wrote a newsletter on treasure hunting and its allure in mystery stories. Happily, treasure hunts can be used for other purposes as well. For those interested in participating, I've devised a mini treasure hunt that is guaranteed to exercise your mental prowess, increase creativity, and/or assist you in procrastinating on your latest project - er, I mean - help you get over writer's block. *Laugh*

I will provide you with five clues to answers that can only be found on Writing.com. After navigating the site and finding the answers, you will need to e-mail them to me. I will verify whether or not you have the correct results. If the answers are correct, you will be given an easy code to crack.

*Star* The first five members to find the answers to all the clues AND who crack the code will each be given a Mystery merit badge...and an additional mystery surprise. *Star*

I hope you're interested! Please take a look at the five clues below.

The Five Clues:

*Note6* I'm not clowning around! Find a particular, recent static item that deals with treasure.

*Note6* Mee-ow! These two suitcases are among the first five non-staff WDC members.

*Note6* Which type of membership allows up to 4,000 portfolio items? Hint: It's also the name of a fictitious star ship!

*Note6* This costumicon might be the last on your list. Especially 'round dinnertime.

*Note6* The chinese restaurant up the street ran out of these inspirational wedges, but I heard matthewhuge has some originals. Can you give me the number to Ricky's shop?

Happy hunting!!

Thanks for your feedback!

I happen to live with three cats five kittens and my sisters three cats. we also have a fish that currently holds the survival record of all the fish we've ever owned. But I've gotten most of my cats wants and needs down.
Andromeda

That's a lot of pets! It's definitely amazing that your fish has survived so long, what with all those kitty cats around. *Bigsmile*

Thank you for writing a newsletter about including the pets in your writings. I have had the privilege of having several animals live with me but I would never say I owned them. Thanks Sweet Musings

Thanks for your thoughts. *Smile*

faithjourney:

Congratulations on being a new pet owner! I understand how you feel. When my husband and I first got our parrot, I struggled to figure out what the various squawks, screams, and grunts meant. Over the past 7 and a half years, I think I can somewhat understand how he tries to communicate with us. I still have my moments when I have no idea what he wants, but they are only occasional now. As you get to know them (and they get to know you), you do develop certain patterns of understanding.

Thanks! It is amazing how much more I feel I understand my guinea pigs now, and it's only been a few months. Could your parrot mimic English as well?

twyls:

Great article on pets! I was hoping yours would be pet rats, and was very pleased to see a poem about rats highlighted. I love my pet rats, and there are always mysterious things going on in their world. Sometimes I can figure out what they're "talking" about, but most often, it's a complete mystery to me!

How funny! I'd actually always wanted mice, but the guinea pigs were bequeathed to me. I think rodents are quite intelligent and it is fun to imagine your rats scheming!

Good point! Animals ARE very mysterious, aren't they? There's just one animal (pet) you forgot...penguins.

Of course! *smacks forehead*
Honestly, I do find warm weather penguins to be a lot of fun to watch. *Delight*

First Treasure Hunt NL Feedback

nomlet Author Icon:

I like mysteries and puzzles and treasure hunts. I recently read a couple of novels by Jack McDevitt featuring a main character who is a scifi antiquities dealer. Lots of action and adventure when you're not the only one hunting after the treasure!

Those novels sound interesting; I'll have to pick one up! Thanks for sharing. *Cool*

GhostDragon Author Icon:

Hi Tehanu, really i've never been on a treasure hunt. Also I would really love to go on a treasure hunt. I think it's the wonder of what it is that you would get if you win.

Treasure hunts can be a lot of fun, if they're planned correctly and everyone involved is interested in having a good time. Hmmm, I wonder if you'd still like a hunt if you knew what the treasure was at the beginning...

lindamv:

Tehanu, another great newsletter!
Thank you also, very much, for featuring my story in your "Mystery" Newsletter! It's a great way of getting exposure.

Thank you! If you've written or seen any other material that you feel would enhance the Mystery NL, please feel free to send a link my way. *Smile*

arwyn_ali:

I do enjoy reading about Treasure hunts. I think part of the thrill is the idea of using ones intelligence to puzzle out clues and get to the goal. I like that one can only gain that treasure by using their mind, rather than just their phyiscal strength.

Indeed! It's nice to solve a mystery without getting out of the armchair. Makes one feel quite brainy, no? *Delight*

Until next time,
Tehanu
