QUIZZES
School has been on my mind frequently over this last month, as I'm planning to return after years of taking either no classes and having less-than-successful attempts at taking one or two classes. So, it's not too big a surprise that the topic of choice this month is quizzes. The good thing: Writing.Com quizzes and Waubonsee Community College quizzes aren't quite the same thing (at least... most of the time)!
Quizzes were introduced as an item type in September of 2006, so in comparison to the other item types available, they're just little tots. No wonder there are less than 500 of them on the site!
So, what can you do with quizzes on here? There are lots of options and lots of cool features! (I'm not going to get into many of the features, though... but the link included at the end describes them all.) In thinking of quizzes (both on here and otherwise) many scenarios cross my mind. I think back to my young teen years, remembering that the only part of those teen mags I had ever really liked were the quizzes. (ie "Where would be the perfect place for your next vacation? ... based on the color of your hair and the size of your shoe.) On here, you can make up your own personality assessments based on random facts, too. (Who knows: someone might believe you!) Then, I'm reminded of history class in high school and realize that "show what you know" quizzes can be edited for Writing.Com use as well: You can link a quiz at the end of that story you wrote, seeing who really read it and who just skimmed. Alternately, they can be a powerful tool to see if certain parts of your story are as clear to your readers as you want them to be. ("Why did Prince Charming kiss the princess in my story?" If most of your quiz-takers respond that it was due to the fact that she just ate bacon and so he couldn't resist but it really had to do with the smell of her perfume... well, you might need to clarify that point.) You can use a quiz to choose members for a group or group writing project. (Those with a certain score range qualify to join in.) The possibilities are limited only by your creativity.
Creating a quiz is a little more complicated than making your everyday static item... but don't worry, it really isn't all that hard. For detailed information on how to make yours, look here: "Invalid Item" . The link takes you through the set-up step-by-step and explains all the cool features that are available. |
Quizzes and Quiz-Related Items:
(As mentioned above: a great resource for learning all about creating Writing.Com quizzes)
(I'm a banana - what about you?)
(Horror movies aren't my thing - I'm quite the wimp! - but maybe you would do well at this.)
(...and you thought you knew where you stood on American politics!)
(Are your reviews up to par?)
Items submitted to the newsletter, found on the plug pages, and interesting items linked elsewhere:
(A new contest to add some more Gay, Lesbian, etc fiction writing to the site.)
(A weekly comedy contest with wonderful prizes)
(A group for teens participating in the National Novel Writing Month) |
Have an opinion on what you've read here today? Then send the Editor feedback! Find an item that you think would be perfect for showcasing here? Submit it for consideration in the newsletter! https://www.Writing.Com/go/nl_form

Golly, Tigger, I'm glad you're back. Seems you were everywhere back when I first joined in 2005.
Anyway, sooo glad I opened this newsletter.
"On a smaller scale, it can be just taking a moment to acknowledge something good in the day."
AMEN to that - I desperately needed to hear the music of having fun and celebrating life. To make a celebration of Tuba Day, PMS Women United Day...even celebrating peacefulness and calm out in the garden. THANKS TIGGER!
You're welcome, njames. With things calming down around here, I am coming back more and will be involved in most of those activities fully soon.
Questions? Comments? Praise? Suggestions?:
I always love to hear what my readers have to say in response to my newsletters, so write in. Bigsmile
Or, if you have any suggestions for future issues, feel free to post that as well.
