N0TICING NEWBIES NEWSLETTER
Noticing Newbies Newsletter is geared to help members get acquainted with Writing.com. There are many things to do and learn. Our goal is to help you make your time here more fun and manageable.
Each week we select and showcase new items (poetry, lyrics, short stories, essays, campfires, polls, etc.). Exposure for an item (your writing) helps to bring you more rates and reviews by fellow members and the general public...of course depending on how much exposure you want your item to have. Some writers like to keep their work private. When your work does receive exposure, it helps bring more member interaction, which will give you the opportunity to build new friendships. Remember, it is a two-way street...try to make an effort to reciprocate reviews.
"There's someone that you haven't already met, go introduce yourself to him or her. Walls and labels can't keep you from the people who are so similar to you in spirit. There's a friendly face behind every door if you pick the right moment to knock. Once you start your wave of creative outreach, it turns into a contagious force. People are waking up and smiling at each other, sharing their dreams without hesitation. This community is worth something."

Draw Your Reader In!
Hello New Members!
If you are a new reader, welcome. And if you are back to enjoy another Newbie Newsletter, thank you for your continued interest. Surely when you are reading articles on the web, you want to read something that will immediately catch your eye, if not, you are most likely going to continue to surf. Not only is it difficult to be a working or accomplished writer, nowadays it is even tougher holding a reader's attention.
Most of the time, I personally enjoy reading magazines over books because throughout the pages the headlines are easy to scan and the articles are short which keeps my interest long enough to satisfy my mind, whereas a book is more time consuming, not that I don't love books, I do, I go through phases. If you write for publication remember to pay attention to your headlines and make sure you are not using unnecessary words that will drag out your sentences and loose the interest of your reader.
Let your writing be spontaneous! Don't be afraid to be playful or clever (assuming it's appropriate for the particular article or story you are writing). Your goal is to draw the reader in so they read more. Sales skills is essential! What is more appealing to catch your wandering eye?

The second headline right...that's what I thought. Tell the reader what they want. Don't be a passive writer. How you present your idea and attitude is so important. Also, believe it or not, scanning your article for mistakes and spell checking are very important. If I come across mistakes, I feel the writer didn't care too much and it is just plain old annoying.
Check out the great tips below for writing on the web.
Until next time...

Family tree. An interesting idea.
Shen Wasuno
Thank you, I'm glad you like it.
Laurencia,
Thought I would mention my own experience with geneology.
I have been putting together a family album, photos and history for four years now. In the process I have battled many relatives over it. Some do not want their history recorded (many husbands, and well one man that seems to have fathered children with three aunts, at different times.) Gets confusing, but the real challenge is how you are treated if this information hits public hands.
It can bring trouble to some, please mention researching family can bring family discourse. My family no longer speaks to me bThankecause of a publisized piece about dealing with my mothers cancer and funeral, and publicating mothers story she left me hand written. Sometimes I wish I had never written those stories, other times I am glad I did.
PS. family album is now over five hundred pages of photos, stories, poems, and drawings, all from family members. Filling four 3" notebooks. A fun process but best kept to myself anymore.

Ceme, I'm sorry to hear of your family battle, it is unfortunate. I would suggest that if you or anyone else wanted to write a non-fiction or fictional story of their family history, use different names to protect their identity. We have a right to tell a story, whether it is taken from our family history or from somewhere else, it is called "Freedom of Speech". I hope you write your story.
Good newsletter! I've always found genealogy to be very interesting.

Thank you, me too!
Thank you for giving us a shine on light about searching family histories. I've been dong that for almost some time. You are very true to what you said that we can be inspired to write stories about the search we have been doing.
