Other men said they have seen angels,
But I have seen thee
And thou art enough.
~ by G. Moore ~
What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
~ by Ralph Waldo Emerson ~
I have been astonished that men could die martyrs for their religion -
I have shudder'd at it.
I shudder no more.
I could be martyr'd for my religion
Love is my religion
And I could die for that.
I could die for you.
~ by John Keats ~

Romance is all about the senses. When writing about something romantic, think about including all of the senses. Not only use the five senses to describe your scene and your characters, but think about using them to further your character relationships.
We often associate massage and touch as romantic. With skin being the largest sensory organ, it's a good thing to keep in mind when writing. Holding hands, touching and kissing all stimulate a sense of well being. Massage stimulates the body to release endorphins and oxytocin, which according to researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, are shown to be "associated with the ability to maintain healthy interpersonal relationships and healthy psychological boundaries with other people." Love and lust (there's a difference) are actually chemical.
Touch is a good tool to connect or disconnect characters in writing. Scent like perfumes, oils, florals, and tasty home-cooked foods stimulate. Music can be pleasing or jarring. Warmth, like snuggling in front of a fireplace is pleasing. Next time you're looking to round out your romantic writing, think about the five senses.
