Quote
And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.

*Question* What Do the Different Suitcase Colors Mean? *Question*

It might seem a silly question for most of us who have been here a while, but for those newbies who have recently arrived, it very well may be a curiosity. *Smile*

Grey Cases ~ Anyone who has a grey case is a Registered Member, but not a Registered Author. The only difference between them is the Registered Author has posted an item in his or her portfolio and the Registered Member has not. Once a member has added an item to port, their case will become black. *Smile*

Black Cases ~ Once again, the only difference between a grey case and a black case, is if their portfolio contains an item that has been created by the member. If and when this takes place, the Registered Member automatically becomes a Registered Author.

Yellow Cases ~ Members who are denoted by a yellow case, are referred to as Preferred Authors. It does not mean they are a better writer than anyone else, but have been promoted because they show positive interaction with this writing community. The total number of Preferred Authors will not exceed 10% of total Registered Authors. For more details on what the criteria includes, click on F.A.Q.. Please do not bug or beg other members to nominate you. This is frowned upon and may delay you from a promotion.

Blue Cases ~ Blue cased members are considered Moderators. Writing.Com Moderators consist of less than 1% of the Writing.Com Author base. Moderators are Preferred Authors who have been chosen by WDC Staff. Volunteered leadership, positive interaction with the community, helpfulness, are only a few factors that are considered when a moderator is picked. To view more of how Staff determines this promotion, go to F.A.Q.. Do not pester Writing.Com Staff to become a Moderator.

Purple Cases ~ Senior Moderator is denoted by a purple case. It is the highest attainable position a member may achieve (other than Staff). A Senior Moderator is promoted from Moderator and selected by Staff. This position is based on overall activities, achievements, and genuine concern toward other WDC members. Senior Mods are also chosen for their inspiration to other aspiring writers. They are focused on writing and helping others write well.

Red Cases ~ Staff are designated with red cases. There is no higher level than the one of Staff. These members are responsible for managing day to day activities, maintaining policies and procedures, the promotion of other members within the community, and improving the website.

White Cases ~ Memorialized Authors are conveyed with a white case. These members, once active on the site, have passed away but their writing has been kept alive in honor of their memory.

Authorized Secondary Accounts (ASA) ~ This black suitcase with a 2nd icon is a second account a member has opted for. Staff are the only members who know the identity of these cases, unless the members who are denoted by ASA chooses to become non-anonymous. These accounts may be used for several reasons including experimenting with different forms of writing anonymously, keeping personal writings separated from main portfolio, or communicating with others as an anonymous WDC angel. In no way may this account be used for bashing other members or any other evil doings. For more information, go to "Authorized Secondary AccountsOpen in new Window..

I hope at least some of you found this helpful. *Smile* Writing.Com is a wonderful community and has so much to offer. Remember to be encouraging, kind, and respectful to others, as they should do the same to you. If you have any questions, don't be shy. *Wink*

Have a wonderful week!!!

Keep on Writing!

Yours truly,
Cubby ")

And Now For Our Featured Newbies!

James Dean Is Dead Open in new Window. [E]
A short story that was for a contest on another site.
by Dantia Author Icon

Excerpt: She woke up every morning, rollers in her hair, and stumbled into his room. The smell of alcohol wafted from her breath as she whispered in his ear. Her voice was soft and full of mourning, a sort of silent fear that both angered him and moved him. She said “James Dean is dead.” He said, “Momma, I know.” It was her private eulogy, the way she mourned the world and her place in it. It had nothing to do with Jimmy and his own great tragedy, it was about hers and about helplessness and maybe a little bit about addiction.

Excerpt: The man backed away to give the attacker some more space, raising his fists in defence causing the afternoon sunlight to reflect off the rings around his wrists. The figure could best be described as a mass of pulsating muscles contained by an electronic suit with intersecting tubes, which began to pump more of the liquid inside them into the figure as he lifted the car over his head. The car alarm died out and the figure threw the car at the masked man. The man fell backwards as the car approached. Moments before it would hit the car was caught inside a glowing blue orb. The man’s rescuer came up behind him with one hand it the air her bright red hair flowing with the breeze.

Excerpt: I wasn’t quite sure, actually, what had urged me to go to the park that day and bike. After all, it hadn’t happened in so long. I mean, granted, I wanted to get out of the house for a while, but that couldn’t have been it. Today was just like any other day – I woke up, got dressed, went to school, and came home. But then, for some reason, I had felt the weird urge to go biking.

Snake Dream Open in new Window. [18+]
This is 1 poem from a series based on imaginings about Mary Magdalene.
by Muriel Author Icon

Excerpt:
carefully i watch
the curious lives lived
above my crawl space
and wonder if ever i
will walk upright

Excerpt:
Is that tunnel,
Which tumbles toward the light
Just my last illusion
In this playground,
Or does it lead somewhere beyond?

Recommended Books
Please send me your favorites!
--The Host by Stephenie Meyer
Being the busy person I am, I've started checking out audiobooks from the library I work at and listening to them like crazy! I've never been much of a listener (more of a day dreamer), so I've noticed my listening skills have improved since I've started these books on disk. The Host is read by Kate Reading and I must say she does a superb job with the voices! And the great thing is, I can multi-task while listening! Highly recommended. *Smile*
