For this week's Spiritual Newsletter I would like to ask my readers... why do you read the Spiritual Newsletter?
There are two reasons for this question. First of all, I'd be interested in hearing how I can help you, the reader, with my monthly contributions. What would you like to read about? Do you enjoy my occasional ponderings about the world, humanity and spirituality? Would you perhaps like me to explore the various faiths and spiritual paths that much more in-depth? Perhaps you'd like me to have a look at various authors and analyse how their faith impacted their writing? Or do you open this newsletter to find something uplifting, something that gives you a bit of a smile today? Whatever is the case, please let me know. This is your newsletter, and though my skills as a writer are limited, and I may not know everything there is to know about a topic you'd like to read about, I promise to do my best.
My second reason for asking this question is based on a mere assumption... I'm guessing that many of you have chosen to receive this newsletter because you enjoy writing items that fall into this genre. Whilst writing techniques are universal, and can apply to any and all of the various genres out there, I recognise that the spiritual genre is rather unique.
In my time as a newsletter editor, I have read a good amount of spiritual and inspirational items, in order to choose items to highlight. It's helped me to realise how powerful faith can be to some, and how devastating to others. It's also helped me realise how complex the issue of faith (or lack thereof) actually is. It's helped me to value all the more the differences in our spiritual journeys, and how different our needs as individuals and writers might be.
The only other genre in which I've found this amount of passion and emotion is the love/romance genre, which is not so strange when I think about it, because there are similaties between the two. When you love someone, it can bring happiness as well as disillusion. When you place your faith in someone, it can lead to joy and strength, but when something happens to cause this faith to be lost, it's heartbreaking. Some relationships last a lifetime. Some don't. The same can apply to spiritual faith - some find joy and inner strength that lasts a lifetime, some experience something that has them turn away from their faith and they're left confused and disillusioned.
Faith is so very personal. It's unique to every person, because our experience of our spiritual path differs for everyone. It's also, sadly, a bit of a touchy topic in this day and age. That's why writing spiritual items takes courage.
So, how can I help you, the writers of spiritual and inspirational items? Would you enjoy it if I occasionally held an informal event in my newsletter? Would it help you if I provided prompts, or inspirational quotes, or looked at items in this genre and analysed them in this newsletter to see why a certain technique is effective?
Please, feel free to let me know. Again, this is your newsletter, and I am here to try make this an enjoyable and worthwhile read for you.

salliemoffitt ~ What a great topic. I am astounded at how much "life" affects my writing. I have had several close relatives die within the last year, and I am amazed at how that has zapped my creative energies. I am a disciplined person and have no problem making myself sit down at the computer, and I can force myself to hammer out several pages of sterilized crap. But the real gems just aren't there. Most every writer will encounter a period of time where the creative juices dry up. Thanks for reminding us that it is temporary, and there is hope.
Sallie
First of all, I am very sorry to hear about your loss. I must admit that, seeing as quite a few of my relatives are elderly and in not very great health, what you experienced is something I fear, though I know it's inevitable. I can understand it will indeed affect your writing.
I do know that sometimes when I feel down, it helps to write. Even though my writing isn't anywhere near as good as I think it could be, or should be, at least it's writing, and at least I'm writing... and sometimes it makes me feel better. And who knows, I might write something I may not think is that great, yet later on look at it and think it has potential. It might be a gem in the making.
So, please don't give up. There is hope .

spidey ~ Excellent Newsletter! I definitely agree with you on all of this. I believe writing is just like a spiritual journey. We're never done growing and learning as human beings and as writers. Even published, successful writers still learn and grow within their life's work.
I've also suffered anxiety, which has affected my writing, and your words have given me hope that I'll break through that block. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your compliment! As you know, I can sympathise about the anxiety problem but yes, there is hope! My writing is not what it once was, but I'm not giving up and I hope you won't, either!
I have read your work before, and I think you are great .

Zeke ~ I think being a writer, while hard, is also very fulfilling. It's like being an artist I guess. There are some emotions that can only be expressed by writing.
Zeke
I definitely agree with you, Zeke! And yes, it is very fulfilling.

THANKFUL SONALI RIP BIKERIDER ~ How beautifully you give a deeper meaning to "writing". Yes, writing is an exploration of our true selves, to be shared with the reader. It is searching, growing and understanding. Thanks for this Newsletter! - Sonali
Thank you so much for your kind words . I am glad you enjoyed the Newsletter!

VOTE:ObamaDramaOverIn2012:D ~ You wrote;
It makes me think that being a writer is like being on a spiritual quest.
That's hitting the nail on the head, right there, in a nutshell, YOU HAVE GOT IT Kittiara! Thank you for a Most Excellent Newsletter.
Thank you so very much! I appreciate your kind feedback!

pooja_sr ~ Very interesting newsletter, Kittiara. I think it's the hope that you're going to write well someday that keeps every writer going. We need to believe in ourselves and be patient. And let life take over. Thanks a lot for sharing this.
Thank you so much for your feedback, and for your wise words. I agree with you... being patient is not always easy, but worth it in the end.

Light ~ Is Spiritual the best genre choice here for New Age/New Spirituality?
Hi! I think it is. It depends on the item, of course. If it is written to inspire other people, then the Inspirational genre can apply as well. If you have an item ready and you're uncertain what to place it under, feel free to send it over to me and I'd be happy to advise you, if you like. .

I wish you all a wonderful week, filled with inspiration!
