And Now For Our Featured Newbies!
Excerpt:
Betrayal by the hot summer
Spent behind one closed door,
The smell of secret intimacy.
A dream come true -
and, therefore, no longer needed.
Excerpt: When I couldn't go to sleep, she would tell me stories about the Night People. They lived in another place, but they could come here. They would search the night until they found a sleeping kid and then take them away to their world. The kid would party and have so much fun, that they would completely forget about their home and their parents would never see them again.
Excerpt: Mister looked at the box. It sure looked to him like there were dinosaurs. Molly continued, "There used to be dinosaurs but there aren't any any more. They all died in a big explosion. The biggest explosion ever! So big all the dinosaurs are all gone." Molly knew how Mister felt about huge explosions, and sure enough Mister started making his best explosion noises.
Excerpt:
I want him to be strong and undefiled.
I present him proudly to the western medicine man.
I hold him after the sharp sting.
He sniffles and smiles.
Excerpt:
She chased that elusive rabbit
the one that promised so much,
a life free of pain and strife
a existance based on lie.
She chased that elusive rabbit,
she would find him soon enough.

The Help by Kathryn Stockett
I listened to this on disk and I absolutely loved every bit of it! This story begins in 1960 in Jackson, Mississippi during the Civil Rights Movement. This is a wonderful novel of one young, white lady and two colored maids who come together and make a difference. Our book discussion group at the library decided to read this book. When I tried to Interloan several copies from other libraries, every single one was checked out.
I highly, highly recommend this book.
