About This Newsletter

I'm honored to be your guest host for this week's WDC Noticing Newbies Newsletter ~

The moment a man sets his thoughts down on paper,
however secretly,
he is in a sense writing for publication.

Raymond Chandler

Letter from the editor

Greetings, fellow writers!

I'm sure you can relate to at least one of the following scenarios as occurring at some point in your time on this planet. Your parents moved to a new city for a job, and you had to start a new school with strange kids you'd never met before, who each had buds that weren't you ^_& Your first day on a job, trying to fit in by not making any horrendous mistakes or doing anything embarassing like burping out loud after lunch. Your first time having to make a speech in public, in an assembly hall or before a committee of your peers, with a microphone, fearing that your voice voice would squeek or boom to the sound of laughter. And there are others; think about them, the first time you, as a new student, employee, committee member, group member, professor, what-have-you, greet a group. Will they dismiss you as 'the new kid' or the 'rookie' ? So maybe you try to blend into the shadows to not stand out as 'the new kid.'

Here at Writing.Com, there are no new kids. We are all 'Newbies' when we arrive, but that is not our identity - that is not the way our peers see us - and you will see that from the day you arrive you are treated as a peer, a fellow writer, not 'the new kid' but 'the writer' or perhaps 'the poet' or 'the playwright' - you get where I'm going. That's as true today as it was for me several years ago when, on a chill December evening, I found a warm welcome here as a fellow writer - a peer.

So open your Portfolio (it's free to all writers in our Community) and share something you've written with us. In return, read and comment upon something you read here ~ yes, your opinion matters and is welcomed, from the first day you arrive! You Matter!*Bigsmile* We want to hear you speak; just look at the pulldown under My Account at the left of the screen,
the first item is Write Something!

Once you click on the red letters, you will open a screen where you can select "Static Item," and you're on the way to sharing your poem, story, screenplay, chapter, article. Scroll down about midway and you can enter your work, either directly into the box or by uploading a Word document or something from your Notepad, or other software system you use.

Give your work a title and a tag line that identifies it and invites readers; give your title a rating and your item a rating so your readers will come to enjoy and comment; you can fill in other tag words as you see fit. Hit "Save and Review" at the bottom of the screen and you will see your final copy (or final draft, if you will) in your portfolio with an item number.

Now stop by "Noticing Newbies" (see the link below) and say hello, open your portfolio and share your work by introducing yourself (nobody will hear if you burp) and share your work by offering the item number "{" bitem: ###### "}" (eliminating the spaces and quotes and replacing the # symbols with the number you got when you saved your document. And, while you're there, check out fellow writers' portfolios for some great reading ~ and return reviewing.*Thumbsup*

Make yourself at home, fellow Writer!

And, while you're at it, check out some of the creative adventures in verse, prose, drama, and more offered by some of our newest members at Writing.Com.

Fellow Writer, Welcome to Writing.Com, our Community of Peers
Write On!
