From My Home To Yours

Can you believe it's Christmas already? I swear, the older I get the faster the years fly by. I remember as a kid it seemed like an eternity between Christmases; now I find myself scrambling to get all my last-minute shopping done because the holiday sneaked up on me like an incognito SWAT team member on a midnight reconnaissance mission.

Holy frijoles, where'd you come from?

I still have a few small things to pick up over the next day or two (does anyone know how long it takes to defrost a turkey in the refrigerator?), but the majority of my shopping is done. Done, y'all! I can finally take a deep breath, kick my feet up and relax a little. Heck, maybe I'll even have time to write. Who'd've thunk it!

As I searched the site for items to feature in the newsletter, I got inspired by all the fun WDC contests and activities available this month. Some entice us to buy a raffle ticket or two while others challenge us to "write a sentence completely made up out of homophones." I wish I had enough time to enter or participate in all of them, but as you'll see many of them have deadlines that will sneak up on you like ... well, you get the idea.

This is the season of giving. As you go about your day thinking and doing for others, don't forget to take a few minutes for you. Do something fun, something relaxing, something rewarding. Buy yourself that Venti Extra-Hot Eggnog Chai Tea Latte you've been craving (yum!) or sink into the couch with your favorite book. Take a snowy evening walk with your sweetheart or go caroling together ... just remember to pamper yourself  too.

Warm hugs and heartfelt blessings, my friends. And from my home to yours, I wish each and every one of you a safe and very Merry Christmas.

Feedback

The following feedback is in response to "Contests & Activities Newsletter (November 25, 2009)Open in new Window.:

sarahreed says, "I'm finding over and over that the key to completing any piece of writing is setting realistic writing goals. Trying to write a 5,000 word piece in one day is usually not doable. There's too much going on in life. So spreading that goal out over several days or a week makes it achievable and much more enjoyable. And I definitely agree that you write when you can, in little chunks, to fit around your schedule. I've found I write better in little chunks than sitting down for two hours to write. Maybe it's because I get to easily distracted. lol." Me too, Sarah! One thing I learned by participating in NaNo this year is that, for me, writing a 500-word flash fiction is cinchy! *Laugh* I can whip one of those out in just a few minutes. Now to be able to do that four times each and every day. *Rolleyes* Thanks so much for tasking the time to read and comment.
