Quotes

A clown is like an aspirin, only he works twice as fast.
~ Groucho Marx

Laughter may or may not activate the endorphins or enhance respiration, as some medical researchers contend. What seems clear, however, is that laughter is an antidote to apprehension and panic. ~ Norman Cousins

Humor is tragedy plus time.

~ Carol Burnett

The human race has one really effective weapon, and that is laughter.

~ Mark Twain

The most wasted of all days is one without laughter.

~ e. e. cummings

Embrace Life and Don't Forget to Laugh

My dad passed away recently, which has brought on waves of emotion for my siblings and myself. Shock, grief, regrets, and yes, laughter have all taken place through this sorrowful time for us. The neighbors witnessed the shock and grief the day they carried my dad's body from his apartment. The days that followed, they not only witnessed tears and lots of hugs, but plenty of laughter as we cleaned out his apartment for good. I wondered if they thought we were being disrespectful when we laughed, but it felt so good, and I know my dad knew we grieved our loss deeply and he would be glad for our laughter.

The Proverb "Laughter is the best medicine" has never in my lifetime meant more to me. Medical studies have shown laughter boosts levels of endorphins which acts as a natural pain reducer. Laughter also suppresses levels of epinephrine, a hormone that produces stress. For more information on what laughter can do, visit:

http://www.mda.org/Publications/Quest/q34laughter.html *Smile*

It's normal to experience a variety of feelings during a loss... or during anything. We are only human, and when we as authors write, we need to make our characters human, too. Creating a character with no faults is like cutting a body out of a flat piece of cardboard with no face. Readers will get bored of someone who acts like he's suppose to. No human being reacts in the same way, and characters should not either. No one is perfect... not hero or heroine. Not anyone.

Next time you go to a special event or family function, pay attention to what's going on around you. Is someone giggling throughout a wedding? Cracking their knuckles during a funeral? Instead of feeling irritated with them, think about why they might be reacting that way. It might stir up your imagination enough to begin a story, or at least a character profile.

Instead of judging human reaction, embrace it. Embrace life while you have it.

         And don't forget to laugh!

May this spring be filled with much inspiration...

Have a wonderful week!!!

Keep on Writing!

Yours truly,
Cubby ")

When a geeky gamer falls in love - weird things can happen.
by Proveur Madness Author Icon

Excerpt: A couple miles outside Sherman, I had to stop to fill up again. One tank officially down – several more to go; I smiled to myself as I stepped out of my car. I was on my way, finally. After four years of dedicated chatting – we were finally going to meet. And it was all thanks to me and my manly courage. I didn’t need anyone to twist my arm anymore. I was going to claim my soul mate.

Short story based on an actual incident
by Rubberchicken Author Icon

Excerpt: I don’t know whose idea it was to go to the sushi bar, but I greeted the suggestion with an enthusiasm that I usually reserved for rectal itch. I tried to tactfully sway them toward something that was actually intended to be eaten by human beings, but they wouldn’t budge.

A different look at Snow White.

Recommended Books
Harris and Me by Gary Paulsen
Recommended by Cubby Author Icon: This book was first published in 1993, but if you want to read something to make you laugh, this is it. At a glance, you might think it's for kids, but the story focuses on humorous events of a city boy learning to live on a farm, based on Mr. Paulsen's own experiences. I can promise it is very entertaining.
