Hi, I'm JACE .
In fact, this is my first edition as a full-time editor of the Noticing Newbies newsletter. I'm looking forward to spending time with you as we journey across Writing.Com together. I hope you'll take time to toss me a note about what you liked or didn't like in my column, or about a topic you'd like to see discussed. And to you seasoned members, I hope you'll find something you can take from my ramblings.

You've just registered with Writing.Com. Congratulations! Of course, the reasons for joining this site are as varied as the folks who sign up.
Just a reader? You'll find almost 300,000 stories, essays, poems, and the like to read on Writing.Com. Want to be a writer? More than 70,000 people over the past ten-plus years have joined, written, and yes, published their work, many of whom are still active here. I'm confident you'll find something to pique your interest on site.
The StoryMaster and his wife, The StoryMistress have created an exciting and dynamic place for writers and readers alike to come and experience the fruits of a wonderful writing community. And everyone who joins has one more thing in common: Navigating Writing.Com can be a daunting and humbling experience.
One year ago this month, The StoryMistress chartered a small group of members to come up with a reference guide to Writing.Com. Over the almost ten years of existence, WDC had seen a plethora of numerous how-to articles, many written by members but maintained within their individual portfolios. The Writing.Com staff had also written items explaining the workings of various facets of the site. In anticipation of the 10th Anniversary of Writing.Com, the leadership wanted to collate these articles into one definitive guide.
Over the next two months, this group took the outline developed by The StoryMistress and poured through hundreds of articles and essays about the inner workings of the site. Most items were rewritten, simplified, and restructured into a similar format for easy understanding. Many entries had to be written from scratch. The result was a one-stop guide designed to give each person a basic understanding of the various workings of Writing.Com.
"Writing.Com 101" was introduced to everyone on July 30th, 2010. Are you nostalgic? Check out "Introducing Writing.Com v10!" .
As newbies, I'm sure you've discovered several forums, all of which are designed to help you navigate through Writing.Com. You probably posted an "I'm here" note on "Writing.Com General Discussion" or on "Noticing Newbies" . You may have asked for help at "Technical Support Forum" or "Non-Technical Support Forum" .
But I would encourage you to check out "Writing.Com 101" first when you have a question about some aspect of WDC. First, there's something inherently rewarding when you search for and find the answer to your question. Yes, it's easier to ask. But the very search may turn up things you weren't specifically looking for, but were still nice to know.
Second, becoming familiar with our reference guide may save you time in the future. Instead of posting a question on a forum and waiting for someone to answer, you can find your answer much quicker by looking for it yourself.
"Writing.Com 101" is readily available at the top of every page you visit on Writing.Com. It's the second link of the line of links located in the Skins. Right-click on the link to open it in a new window. Or, you can access the guide via the navigation menu under Writing Resources. I can honestly say that seldom does a day go by that I don't use the guide myself.
Whether you just want to read, write or review, Writing.Com is a great place to be. And help with finding your way around the site is just a click away. Help yourself. |
I know it's not always easy to write about yourself, but I believe a Bio-Block to be very important for you, and for others who drop by your Port. All the Newbies listed below have filled out their Bio-Blocks. Care to join them?

Since this is my first newsletter, I have no feedback to post. Perhaps you'll change that for me.
I have no shortage of topics to write about in this newsletter--that may be a blessing or a curse. Whatever the case, I'd still like to hear what my readers would like to be discussed. After all, this newsletter is about and for you. Please submit your ideas as feedback. I may not use them, but if I do, I'll send a merit badge appropriate to the topic submitted to that person.
Thanks for reading, and my best to you in your writing endeavors.
