I planned another topic for this newsletter, but then the interruptions began and my research ground to a halt. I realized that the way an author handles interruptions is a big part of succeeding during NaNoWriMo. The way an author deals with interruptions can mean the difference between making his or her daily word count goal and falling short.
Some interruptions you can ignore. You can let the voice mail respond to the ringing phone or you can put your cell phone on vibrate and hide it in a desk drawer. You can put the car in the garage and close the garage door, that way people will think you are not at home.
Other interruptions you have deal with immediately and quickly. In these cases, I suggest stopping in the middle of a sentence. When the interruption occurs, do not finish the sentence or the paragraph you are working on. Those ways when you return to your story you read to the stopping point and continue the thought.
If you return to your last sentence and find you cannot remember what came next. Then write the interruption into the story and let your character deal with it. Use the interruption to build the plot, remember that in December you will be rewriting the novel anyway.
I encourage everyone who is participating in NaNoWriMo to make or exceed his or her daily word count in spite of the interruptions.

Excerpt: Four they rode, and the Bumbler made five.
I'm all alone now, and I have a short time left to write my story. The clock on my desk softly ticks away the seconds, reminding me of my destiny. I’m fortunate that my laptop still works.

Dr. Dnomyar writes: I've never found talking animals all that useful.
BIG BAD WOLF is Merry writes: It might be hard for me to show you everything of mine that has talking animals, so post my name in 100Point font, and then take a look in my port and pick out your faves. I have.... 100+ items, most dealing with talking animals in the form of Anthros.
atwhatcost writes: I'm not sure if this is considered a "story about talking animals," but it is my teddy bear's version of how we met. (I'm still not sure if there really was a chocolate cake in the box, but, then again, why shouldn't I believe my teddy bear? He hasn't lied to me yet.)
Next month’s subject concerns Anthros and other Non-Humans.
