Letter from the editor

The new Star Trek movie got me to thinking about fan fiction. I have attempted writing both poetry and stories with Star Trek characters. I find poems exploring different Star Trek themes easier to write then stories. After doing research on the subject of fan fiction, I have come to the conclusion that in the stories I have difficulty making sure the Star Trek characters remain in character.

Since I have difficulty with the fan fiction character acting like themselves in the stories I write, I need to find a way to keep them in character. Therefore, before writing a fan fiction story I have to read more about the characters I am using in the story. Fortunately, the internet allows me and other fan fiction writers to do this.

Does anyone else have similar issues writing fan fiction? If so, how do you solve the problem. When you review fan fiction stories, do the characters in the stories act like themselves? Please let me know what you think about the characters in fan fiction.
