Letter from the editor

So, I've been thinking for a long time on this topic. And when I say that, I mean thinking about what to write. Normally, newsletter topics come to me with no issue so I have to admit that it was getting me a little stressed when nothing was forthcoming.

As I sat down and started to type this newsletter (hoping that starting to type would release my newsletter muse), that's when it hit me. October is the perfect time of year, the season, for a horror story. I don't know about you but I love settling in for the night and putting myself through a scare-fest of horror films and knowing I won't be able to sleep with the lights off or walk around the house on my own. I love gaming too. October is the time for all of the scariest games and at the minute The Evil Within is providing some pretty gruesome playing time (as well as inspiration).

That is what you have to look for. Everywhere you go in October, there is always inspiration for a horror story. Shops are filling with Halloween supplies. Haunted houses are going up and gearing up for the big scare night. Horror films and games are released and books too.

But there are other sources of inspiration, the sort you might normally cast off. When you see that man hurrying down the street covered in a grey trench coat, what is he running from? Is that child holding the candy bag really just a child in a costume? What about those haunted houses? Are they really just put up for Halloween or is there a story behind it? And all those ghost stories told around the campfire... are they really just stories? Why not go and investigate? Here's a torch for you, those corners are really quite dark. Mind your footing as you go and overall, remember to tread quietly, you don't know what you might awaken...

*Spider* Perhaps another newsletter on the subject! A little story... my partner told me I was talking in my sleep a few weeks ago. I told him I was the Devil and that I was sending the demons down to earth to suck all of the joy from the world. When he questioned me, I told him I was simply getting into character!
