About This Newsletter

Creative writing is a vital function to writing poetry. Lines of words from the heart can be written to convey the emotion of a particular time, person, or event, but the writer often gets caught up in his or her own emotions and forgets about his audience.

Letter from the editor

Writing with emotion is all about getting your reader to feel what you are feeling, whether it's excitement, despair, anticipation, joy, anger, and so on. It could be the best feeling in the world. It could also be the worst. Since writing poetry is a way to express feelings, don't hold back. Just focus on getting your thoughts down on paper. What really makes you emotional, either in a positive or negative way? Think of a person, concept, place or thing that you are deeply connected to. Poetry often becomes more complex than words written from emotions, and the writer must employ a proper form and technique to reach the reader. You may end up needing many words that have the same definition or meaning, so checking out a thesaurus can be hugely useful.

Here are a few tips that may be helpful:

*Bullet* The use of a thesaurus and/or dictionary is priceless when expressing yourself.

*Bullet* Jot down as many words that go with a particular emotion.

*Bullet* Add metaphors and strong images to help people envision your experiences. Your audience wants to see, hear, smell, taste and feel what you write.

*Bullet* Music is a great way to help bring out certain emotions.

*Bullet* Be completely honest, it can only help get out what you're trying to convey

*Bullet* Allow all of your emotions to be left on the page. Chances are, many other people will be able to relate to what you've experienced.
