A few days ago, I had my front door open so that I could see the partly cloudy sky. I looked up from my typing and saw a cloud that was shaped like a dragon with its mouth open. The dragon shaped cloud appeared to be attacking another cloud. I watched as the wind dispersed the clouds and formed them into other shapes. As a results, I wondered if there was a way to use the shapes of clouds to further the plot of a story.
I search for "cloud shapes" and eventually came across the term aeromancy. According to Wikipedia, this form of divination uses atmospheric conditions, such as the formations of clouds or wind conditions, as well as comets or other types of cosmological occurrences to predict the future. In addition to aeromancy there are other forms of divination that uses specific weather conditions such as thunder and lighting to predict the future.
Sub-forms of aeromancy:
Ceraunoscopy - thunder and lightning
Nephomancy - clouds
Austromancy - wind
Meteormanc - shooting stars or meteors
Chaomancy - aerial sight
How would you use these forms of divination in a fantasy story? Have you used any of these in a short story or novel? Do you have any stories in your port using these forms of divination? Let me know through the feedback section of this newsletter.

Excerpt: A cold wind carried a hint of dampness from the coast, pushed itself into your bones and yearned to be felt, seen and heard. Trees swayed, popped and crackled in the far forest, reminding of the coming wave upon wave of chill - undaunted, unabated. ‘Is this all there is to this life?’ he thought. He’d never once wished harm toward a single soul, yet there he sat full of sour gloom in the waning daylight.
Excerpt: “You should help your people,” the voice growled. “You have never shied away from your duties before. How is this different?”
Excerpt: The temple’s atrium was cold in the winter night on the homeworld. The only illumination coming from twin two moons above and the billions of stars in the midnight sky. He had come to pray at the statue of his people’s god, the Sun God: Eos. Those who prayed to Eos in the night prayed for the sun to rise in the morning. Turmoil wracked his soul, uncertainty crept in to his mind like encroaching disease creeps in to one’s body. He prayed that this dark would be chased out of mind by Eos’ blessing and the rising sun.

Excerpt: Her first birth was in Hastings in 1066, the year William the Conqueror became the last successful person to invade England. Her first sound as she left the womb was the smashing of metal against metal from clashing swords. The screams of mortally wounded men and the pleas of women and children begging for their lives was her lullaby. Flames leaped from one house to another and the crash of falling buildings sent glowing red embers soaring into the sky and added more noise to the den.

Excerpt: A rider clothed in blue armour and fabric was slowly making her way through an old, almost magical forest, covered in a white blanket of fresh snow. The hooves of her white, dark-haired horse crushed the white carpet underneath her footsteps, leaving a hoof trail behind their path. The rider sighed, leaving condensed air in a small, soft cloud from her throat outside.
