A Gift for Phoebe

In the past, I’ve written about giving the gift of poetry. I’ve also written about new and older poetry forms. I’ve even created a few poetry forms—and today I’m going to combine them all.

Many of you have sent and/or created a gift for Phoebe. I’ve been thinking about what I can do. I’m not especially crafty, and not really an artist. I wanted to give her something from my heart. I love poetry, and am a decent writer. So, I’ve created a gift of a poetry form and a poem for Phoebe.

Phoebe’s Form—Until she chooses to rename it.

For now it’s called Phoebe’s Form, but she is more than welcome to rename it at any time. The number five features strongly in this form because she was five when she was diagnosed with leukemia. She turned six this month, and I know you join me in wishing her many, many more birthdays!

MUST HAVES

--5 syllables per line.

--5 lines per stanza.

--5 stanzas complete the poem.

--Give it some sparkle—Phoebe likes sparkle! Use vivid language, metaphors, alliteration, and other tools in the poet’s toolbox.

COULD HAVES or WHAT IS THE POET’S CHOICE IN ALL THIS?

--Topic: Phoebe is a strong little girl (a warrior!), who likes dancing, kittens, sparkles, pink and the list goes on. Pick a topic from this list, or get to know Phoebe from the link below and create a topic idea from that, or use your own topic choice.

--Rhyme or not, it’s up to you.
