Spoiled Romance Yields Epic Stories

Hell Hath No Fury as a Woman Scorned

Would you believe it if I told you that the most unrelated stories come from spurned love?

Unrequited love is a sad thing to feel. If you just look at the news and see how many violent crimes happen because one person didn't feel loved enough, you can easily tell that the topic of love and romance can quickly deteriorate into chaos and destruction.

An example from contemporary literature is Game of Thrones. If you only watched the TV show, you might not have gotten it. I watched the first four seasons of that story, but I also read the first five books. As usual in such cases, the books give more detail than the TV show.

As you experience Game of Thrones as a show on TV or as book you read, you see a lot of greed and people that are hungry for power. There is so much death, violence, and destruction that it's almost impossible to find that one inciting moment that kicked off this book series that engulfs countries across at least two continents in bloody wars.

You think Game of Thrones is about dragons? Gold? Who is the king?

No. Game of Thrones is the story of a young woman who wasn't allowed to marry the man she loved. For those of you who read it, you will know. For the rest of you: I really can't give away who because that would totally ruin it for you. Just remember when you write romance ... if it doesn't turn out well for your characters, they can always go and start a war.

Ask & Answer

I received the following comments for my last Romance/Love newsletter "Spring is in the AirOpen in new Window..

StephBee Author Icon wrote: I love your idea of taking a walk in nature to awaken the romance in your heart. Let nature, the warmth of the sun and the chirping inspire you. Thanks for taking a turn on the Romance/Love NL!

I always feel as if I'm waking up in spring. I think it's all around us at this time.

💙 Carly-wrimo 2024 Author Icon wrote: Thanks so much for choosing one of my stories to highlight. I enjoyed rereading it. I hope others enjoy it too.

I hope you got some good reviews for it.

Joy Author Icon wrote: Nice take on spring and romance, NaNoNette. It is a fact that most people connect spring with lovers.
In my youth, however, I only fell in love in the middle of freezing winters. *Laugh* Possibly because, when spring arrived, my thoughts were mostly occupied with exams and school or seedlings and flowers and where to sow them.

Maybe a handsome gardener could have changed your mind? *Laugh*

Osirantinous Author Icon wrote: Thanks for including my short story, a slightly difficult write since when I did it it was autumn where I am! Spring and Autumn are my favourite seasons because they are the most visual and yet not extreme; everything's changing and refreshing, and both are ripe for romance!!

You are so correct. Spring and autumn are when the season change the most and all that activity creates the set-up for the next season.
