Love is Love is Love*AwarenessRB*

Like many people, I was watching the Tony's when Lin-Manuel Miranda gave his now famous "love is love is love" speech just after the horrific massacre of nearly 50 people in a Florida gay bar. My boyfriend is obsessed with somehow trying to get tickets to the sold-out Hamilton, and I think Lin-Manuel is a hottie, but both of us fell just a little bit more in love with him when he gave his acceptance speech, a sonnet that started out about his wife, but ended as a social commentary on the Florida shootings.

I was floored. Any man who can write a sonnet that powerful is a man I want to know. A man (or woman, or non-binary human being!) who can so simply, but so eloquently, express the idea that "love is love is love" on national TV instead of gloating about his award, is rare.

It was just Pride weekend in many cities around the United States (although Pittsburgh had theirs weeks ago), and in Pittsburgh there's always been a little bit of a controversy over the motto "All you need is love" in reference to Pride events. Critics say no, love is NOT all you need. Love will not fix everything. There are too many crazy people with guns, too many homophobic people, too many oppressed groups of minority gays who don't feel comfortable coming out. Love clearly won't heal all.

But I'd like to believe that love helps. Love may not be all we need, but "love is love is love," no matter who is doing the love or who is receiving it. Love is one of the purest things that exists.

Happy Pride! *AwarenessRB*
