About This Newsletter

Hello!
I'm Marci and I'm your guest editor this week. Many of you might know me for my poetry writing, but did you also know I write romantic suspense/thriller novels? I am currently working with Love Inspired to sell my first Christian romantic suspense, and I'm here to talk about some awesome ways to commit murder! *Devilish* Bwahahahaha....

There are more people killed with baseball bats and hammers than are killed with guns. - Paul Broun

“Guns are neat little things, aren't they? They can kill extraordinary people with very little effort.” - John W. Hinckley, Jr.

Letter from the editor

If my husband ever turns up murdered, please take my laptop and throw it in the middle of the ocean! Why? I'm all the time looking up new and creative ways of killing off my characters. These means searching out poisons and how they work, searching for specs and ammunition on various types of guns, and even searching for obscure measures a serial killer could employ.

Many of us go right to guns when we think of murder because this is what we hear about the most. But there are many more interesting things to use. And this is how we can keep a story going. How is the killer murdering his victims? Where does he/she get it from? All of these details can add to the story and continue to add to the fear and suspense. Don't forget to throw in some ideas of what it could be, but eventually, we find out what it's not.

So, where can we find out all of this exciting information? I'm glad you asked.

To find out about guns and ammunition, search sporting goods stores online. You'll be surprised how much you can find out. I've also done searches asking about firearms for various law enforcement agencies. The more technically correct you are in your story, the more credible you are. I like to use Dick's Sporting Goods  Open in new Window. and Guns and Ammo Magazine  Open in new Window..

What about poison? There are more ways to kill by poison than any other means. FMWriters.com  Open in new Window. lists quite a few ways to poison someone. And there are some other interesting ideas on crimewatchdaily.com  Open in new Window.. Or simply type "Murder by Poison" in your search engine and see what other ideas you come up with. You must also decide if you want to make someone suffer or if you want to kill them quickly. You can be quite creative with poison.

Finally, if you want to be totally original, type "weird ways to be murdered" in your search engine. There will be multiple sites to search and read through.

If you'll notice, there is a common theme here. Research, research, research. The best way to make your readers stay in your book and on the edge of their seats is to be credible. So whether you kill your characters in a common or obscure way, make sure you know what you are talking about before you write it.

Until next time, live... laugh (bwhahahaha)... and write *PenB*

What are some different ways can you commit murder... in your stories?

Feedback from June 16, 2016

From DB Cooper Author Icon:
I agree with your friend 100%. Grammar should not stand in the way of giving someone a good scare!!!!!!!!!!

And to create the best scare you have to create suspense! Thanks for the response.
